I wouldn't count her out unless she says she is officially withdrawing from politics. Even then, we never know.

Well, factually, it may well be Sarah or nothing and by nothing I mean the expansion of statism and accelerated decline of the constitutional republic. Who else is there?  Romney is a proven statist.  Jindal maybe, but he's been quiet since the response to the state of the union.

They really fear her and will destroy her by what ever means they can. They know that she is popular with the people and after all of damage 'the one' has done to America she will make a strong case for change .The powers that bought and paid for the current occupant of the white house will move heaven and earth to destroy her as soon as possible. It's interesting to see how the MacCain hacks turned on her and tried to trash her just like the liberals did.

They tied her up in court in Alaska with every petty charge they could think of just to wear her down but by resigning that's over now. They will find a new way to harass her and her family. We need to protect her from these evil bastards that will stop at nothing to destroy her ,her family of what ever credibility she has left come the next election cycle !

2012 is not her year. Not sure she'll have a year. The press and the Left (same thing) did their number on her and now she is damaged goods in the American psyche. Not yours or mine perhaps, perhaps not even in the Republican base, but generally speaking with enough people to keep her out of the White House. They made sure the public perceived her as lacking the gravitas for the Executive positions, same way they did with Quayle. In 2012 she would be nothing but a distraction, with the talking heads yammering the same old rehashed shit from 2008 until we're once again saturated with it. The primaries would probably be a bloodbath that would make the Clinton/Obama wars look tame.

If she wants to help out nationally she should do what she does best - firing up the base with campaigning for other Republicans. Maybe run for the Senate and spend a term establishing some legislative chops, hopefully on some high profile committees if we can retake Congress. Then come back in '20.

Good answer.  Maybe using her as a lightning rod for conservative candidates might be good for Congressional prospects.  Just my opinion, but I'd rather have a solid conservative minority than a spineless, mushy majority.  That kind of governing helps no one.

Then come back in '20.

To what?.....After 12 years of Obama and liberal BS they'll be nothing left.

I wouldn't count her out unless she says she is officially withdrawing from politics. Even then, we never know.
Part of her resignation was based on the numerous BS ethics complaints filed against her:

http://hotair.com/archives/2009/07/03/palins-brother-the-frivolous-ethics-complaints-weighed-on-her/

I for one am disappointed that those who would have hounded her from office have achieved EXACTLY what they were looking for. The tactic of liberal derangement has now been validated.

If she tries to run in 2012 the narrative will be: "the woman who couldn't stand the heat in the kitchen" and/or "they must have been closong in on something real/big".

She's done...which is a shame because she's the only reason I got out of the house in 2008.

EDIT: I would also like to add this is piss-poor timing. Now the MSM has 2 weeks to dedicate to navel-gazing on behalf of the conservative movement (and we all know how fair and even-handed THAT will be) at a time when we need the public's attention focused on Sotomayor, Obamacare, Card Check, and Cap-n-Trade...things that are getting midnight amendments and 3 hrs of deabte on the floor. It's the same extraneous excrement as if Michael Jackson had died all over again.

I'm sorry for the absolutely horrendous treatment her family has gotten in the media but she has hurt us in her effort to go back to being a private citizen. Not that I don't wish her a happy life...I really do, I just wish we had found a woman with more testicular fortitude.

Well, that's assuming we can take back the Presidency in '12 with a two-termer. I agree that it's imperative we get Obama out. I love Sarah Palin, I just don't think from a practical standpoint that she is the one who can do it.

Sarah Palin doesn't hurt us, we hurt us.  Now there will not only be Palin bashing from the moonbats but our own guys (other than the fake ones) are going to engage in it.

Even if we defeat Obama care we'll just end up with Romney care which is the same as Obama care.

I think Sarah Palin has far more testicular fortitude than most of us.

This is just all so stupid.  We'll end up with Romney or Gingrich on '12 and neither of those guys has any balls whatsoever.  Romney hides behind an army of surrogates and Gingrich, when he takes the conservative position, reverses himself the first time he is interviewed by the MSM.

It's really easy to be in the wilderness and online because we're not putting anything on the line.  None of us know what that woman and her family have been going through and yet she can still be positive and upbeat and all we can do is piss and moan about how we are being hurt by a lone woman.

Before any of us start accusing people in the line of fire of lacking balls we should check our own shorts.

If the conservative movement had any balls left we wouldn't have been stuck with feeble old Juan McCainez last time around but God bless him for introducing us to Sarah.

It's a long way until 2012; Romney and Newt aren't our only hopes. Gingrich doesn't even come across as a contender and I pray for someone other than Romney..or Romney's "conversion" to true conservatism.

But my points about Palin being finished as a national condidate stands as does my point that this serves the MSM better than it serves conservatism because now the Obamatons can cluck about Sarah so they don't have to openy debate the merits--or lack thereof--of the liberal agenda.

FWIW - Sarah may yet play a prominent role as kingmaker and fund-raiser but she's not going anywhere on the national elected office scene.

I wish her all the happiness in the world and wish her feckless, spineless enemies are involved in mishaps with heavy machinery because what they did to her family is despicable.

Great responses guys, thanks.  Not having been here through the 2008 primary, didn't know how you all were leaning.  Now that I recovered from the Sarah "not retreating but moving in a different direction" announcement, I look forward to finding the best candidate to remove King Bwack  :-)

Could Romney be the one to pull a Reagan and upset Jimmy Obama?

Sarah will only be 52 in 2016, I do think that would be her best year if the GOP loses in '12.  Heaven help us.

Also, from Erick Erickson's blog today, this point struck me:

Quote
4. I’ve had this running thought all day, perhaps because I was watching it on TV in HD for the first time, that this is kind of like Ben Kenobi letting Darth Vader strike him down. Palin is not going to run in 2012, but by doing this she can now become Barack Obama’s worst nightmare, and help rebuild the opposition to Obama. How? Because were she to remain a 2012 contender, she’d keep having stories by anonymous McCain campaign staffers and other 2012 contenders going after her and her family. Take that ambition off the table and it neutralizes a lot of that. So she can focus on candidates and ideas without an ulterior motive focused on 2012.

There's more here:

Hi,

I just read Palin's speech and I would say not to count her out.  Much like Reagan who appealed to the people and went around the mainstream media, Palin seems to be doing the same.  She could easily be on a whirlwind trip of speaking engagements and her justification is to raise money to pay for her legal bills against the frivolous lawsuits.  She could also do some real damage; for example what if she has information on BO's birth records and takes him to court the way they went after her???

I like Newt and Romnet but from what I hear, his government medical in MA is not anything we want or need either.  I don't want any government medical care at all and if he got elected you know we would have expansion of another failed government program.

As far as Palin goes, she appears to have a lot of common sense and a terrific public appeal.  If a republican got elected president he could make her the Czar of finding ways to cut government waste and use her as the point person to sell it because she could run rings around most members of congress.  She might do things like say eliminate the Bureau of Indian Affairs or something.  I know she would find the low hanging fruit where we are spending billions on nonsense and she could really rally the outcry against the do-gooders that want to spend millions to learn the effects of pig farts (which was in the BO stimulus package, beilieve it or not).  There are lots of programs that are huge wastes of taxpayer dollars and with her background she could find them and get them fixed.  Look at what she did in AK.  Pelosi's airplane would likely be on top of the list.

Also, I wouldn't be so quick to jump on the parallels between Palin and Nixon with his "you won't have Nixon to kick around anymore" speech.  He came back six years later and won the presidency.  So even if you DO try to draw that parallel...just sayin.

H5 for that post

If we put up another moderate or someone that will not engage O and differentiate themselves, we will lose again. Palin can do that. I do not see any other candidate that has the total package. She is a staunch conservative, attractive, well spoken and has more desire and fortitude than candidates like Romney and Newt put together. She is the best that the Repub. party has to offer at this juncture. All of the speculation of why she resigned and what it does for her chances at a run in 2012 is just a bunch of hyperbole cause 2 years in politics is a lifetime.

I dunno... the way she's smiling, I'm going to side with the notion that this was a "brilliant maneuver" on Sarah's part.  I think she has the power to take the base right out from under the GOP and I think they know that. She's got them by the balls.  :-) A viable third party emerging? We may well see it in our day.

At first I was disappointed in her....but after watching how she has been raked over the coals again and again all weekend...I think it probably took more courage for her to leave than it would have been to stay.

Sure....she could have stayed and let Alaska keep having to spend millions of dollars defending the Alaska side of the ethics charges. I heard her blamed either last night or this morning for being the cause of Alaska having to spend that money. She's been found innocent of all charges so far.....so how can she be "at fault"...except "somebody" must be at blame.

Sure...she could have stayed and continued to let her personal legal fees bury her family's economic future and lose their home. Between her and her husband, they barely made $200,000 a year...and her legal fees alone were over $500,000....how could they responsibly allow those fees to continue? What would happen is that they would have to file bankruptcy ....and oh wouldn't the media have a field day with that!!!

Sure...she could have stayed and let the comedians, the media, and any other individual who wanted their 15 seconds of fame....continue to denigrate her family. All other politicians' kids have been off limits...but hers. I heard someone say today, that Hillary stuck it out and Chelsea was picked on ....and no one did anything. Uh....Hillary chose to stay in her marriage....she knew the consequences. Chelsea gotted picked on and the public outcry was cataclysmic.....it was stopped.

Regardless of what Sarah Palin chooses to do...I wish her well.

She is a woman who just wanted to make a difference in our country, roust out the crooks and try to turn the page back to a time when the United States was strong and proud.

I don't blame her a bit for quitting....she took the high road which is always the toughest.....sad that few are able to see it....

I agree with the sentiment here that says that she's going to be the "kingmaker."  My guess is that the nominee in 2012 will be a Governor, but not Romney.  Romney can tout all his experience in business all he can, but there's one state which seems to be thriving in the Obamageddon that is being foisted upon us now--Texas.  They somehow have a budget surplus (I heard $7 billion) after cutting a lot of spending.  My guess is that Rick Perry will be the nominee, and win handily, because by that time, unemployment will be so high, and the economy will be so bad, that if ACORN were to **** with the election, there would be a violent reaction from the "moderates" (and possibly the military--see Honduras), and a lot of lefties would become fertilizer.  All Perry will have to do is say, "Look what I did with Texas, and the hand I was dealt by President Obama.  I can--and will--do the same for the country."

"Poor little guy. I bet he probably kept up for the first mile or so."

And I would--despite my criticisms of her resignation--very much like to see Palin continue on as a kingmaker. She still has tremendous draw and she can operate far more freely and without all the BoguS ethics complaints (which I wish her attorney was telling the truth and would launch a counter offensive).

Truth be told, even without this resignation I don't think she would/could/should have run for prez in 2012. Whether we like to admit it or not the MSM--doing no more honest research than Tina Fey--has successfully painted her as a rube. It's unfair and quasi-racist...but it also lodged in the American psyche like Michael Jackson's lip in a 12 year-old boy's zipper. I think from this vantagepoint she's got all gravy and no grisle where the inverse were true had she stayed.

I still don't like it. I despised Bush for so many of his domestic policies but I always saluted him for his top-down loyalty to his troops regardless of what it cost him personally. Sarah was on track policy-wise but her resignation is disappointing in the extreme. She is, after all, CinC of the AKNG and I believe her son is still deployed. That hurts on a certain level.

According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

I dunno... the way she's smiling, I'm going to side with the notion that this was a "brilliant maneuver" on Sarah's part.  I think she has the power to take the base right out from under the GOP and I think they know that. She's got them by the balls.  :-) A viable third party emerging? We may well see it in our day.
The way people are pissed at BOTH parties...I see that happening...The way she's pissed off all the "insiders" I'd say she's doin somethin right
In Tennessee. I came down here to get warm, froze my arse off since I got here..
Just my luck... ;-P
