40 inmates hospitalized after California prison riot
« on: August 09, 2009, 12:12:30 PM »

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Forty prison inmates were sent to hospitals, four of them airlifted, after a riot erupted at the California Institution for Men in Chino, a spokesman said.

Flames leap from a housing unit at a prison in Chino, California, on Saturday night.

The melee broke out at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Reception Center West facility, said Lt. Mark Hargrove, prison spokesman.

The situation was under control as of Sunday morning, he said, and inmates who had not been admitted to hospitals were being returned to the prison.

The scene of the violence was a medium-security housing facility with seven units, each unit housing about 200 inmates, he said. Some 80 officers responded to the riot, during which a housing unit was set on fire. As of Sunday morning, authorities did not know how the fire started.

Meh.  Just another prison riot.  But the video of the flames is impressive.

Hmmmm.....I heard the other day on one of the shows on Fox, that CA is releasing up to 30% of the states prisoners to cut down on costs.

Hopefully they won't want to come this far east.... :uhsure:

They riot, get injured, get immediate healthcare, costing the state above and beyond routine maintenance.

I dunno, call me hardhearted, but I'm for letting them lie where they fall.

Can't prison guards shoot straight these days?

Wonder if they will have to stand in line for health care like the rest of us?

I grew up near Chino, and it was always known as a low security prison for low risk offenders. When I was younger, I don't even think they had a fence. Prisoners could have just walked off if they were so inclined, but they didn't, because they knew that when they were inevitably caught, they would go to a real prison with all the father rapers and mother killers. The article doesn't say what they were rioting over. Maybe they took away bingo night?

No, that would be unconstitutional to force prisoners to wait in line. It falls under cruel and unusual punishment, however, there is no protection for "free citizens".  :fuelfire:

I dunno if you can call that shootin' straight. Weren't they responsible for the injuries afflicted on the hostages? If you're going to shoot, at least make sure you're hittin' the bad guys!!!!!!!!

Atleast we would not have to worry about the cost of housing and feeding them if they let it burn. Call me mean or rude but I am tired of having to pay for the worst of society and most of them eat better than some people I know.

THey also don't have to stand in line either. Some of them should have to stand in line for a lethal injection
