What’s the best advice you ever received in your life?

I have no problem answering that question. When I was about seven or eight, my older sister told me “Don’t fart in public.” Now that’s a hard piece of advice to beat.

Nonetheless, Hollywood has produced some great pieces of advice:

“Leave the gun. Take the canoles.” (The Godfather)

“Fasten your seatbelts, it’s going to be a bumpy night.” (All about Eve)

“Suck my dick.” (Demi Moore in G.I. Jane)

I'd really love to hear some public figure advise Dick Cheney to just shut up and go away.

However, the list is endless and I’d like to hear from you. What’s your favorite piece of advice?

I dunno.

The best advice franksolich ever got was "vote Republican."

1. In 1969 when I was 19

My old man said if I went into the Army, he'd kick my ass every step of the way down to the induction center 45 miles away.

I was 19, 1-A and my number in the lottery was 98, so I enlisted in the Air Farce.

3. "It's not where you start out, but where you end up" - mom

I was going to college and I didn't have the money to go to university, and my mom asked me to consider the cheaper junior college option.

I took her advise, went to a really good junior college OCC in orange county. Through it, I had one of the best experiences of my life, and ended up studying art in Paris for 6 months, and then transferred to UCLA.

I'm so glad I took her advice instead of going straight to UCLA. I thought my classes and professors were better at the junior college, and the overall experience was really good. The sacrifice: dorm life. I have no regrets.

Uh-oh.  Oscar Wilde betrays a rather rocky relationship with a woman:

21. In response to your "Don't ever get married" piece of advice,

I guess that there's nothing wrong with marriage in general. However, it's been my experience that it's one sure way to kill a great sexual relationship.

(Yeah, I know. Most women will flame me and most men will probably nod in agreement -- silently.)

And here Oscar Wilde reminescences about his youth in that bastion of finance:

52. I've always believed that the term "drama queen" should be expanded to include people like Gingrich, Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly and so many other thugs.

It's just too descriptive a term to be limited to gay men who engage in overt displays of emotional behavior and/or fits. Why not open up the "Big Tent" to a broad variety of "drama queens."

My opinion aside, imagine how the thugs I've mentioned would react to being called drama queens. Their exploding heads alone would be worth the price of admission.

Sayeth one of the biggest drama queens on Skins's island, who got his lace cuffs and embroidered panties all in a wad because one time he locked the cat up in the bedroom with no litter-box, and the poor cat had to piss on him, making Oscar wilde.

61. Oh... That And "Never Argue With A Fool... One May Not Tell The Difference".

From a fortune cookie as a kid. Still can't master that one...

It's a pretty big bonfire, but it's mostly primitives quoting old advice and counsel the primitives themselves never follow.
apres moi, le deluge

Milo Yiannopoulos "It has been obvious since 2016 that Trump carries an anointing of some kind. My American friends, are you so blind to reason, and deaf to Heaven? Can he do all this, and cannot get a crown? This man is your King. Coronate him, and watch every devil shriek, and every demon howl."

Why are you even a member of Skin's Island ?  I mean, you must have 99% of the posters on ignore, right?

I take the Ten Commandments to be the best advice.

When walking on egg shells, don't hop.

And one other that I took to heart. told to me by a battle hardened GYSGT

You see, I don't care you how feel.  I really don't.  More importantly, neither does anyone else.  Only about 200 people on a planet of 7 billion actually care about your feelings, and that's if you're lucky.  The sooner you grasp this lesson, the better off you will be.  And since almost no one gives a damn what you do, say, think, or feel, appealing to your feelings when you encounter differences of opinion is not only illogical, but useless.
