Tangerine LaBamba
« on: May 18, 2009, 11:10:55 AM »
All right, this has been bothering me.  I've been noticing this poster's name come up more frequently in recent months.  My DUmp access has been limited at times as of late, so I've been trying to figure out why this person has become a poster of prominence.  I looked up the "primitive name change" thread, and nothing about Tangerine LaBamba.

I'm suspecting that this was a stealth name change by a long-time DUmmy.  $kimmer used to do that on occasion for DUmmies of prominence.  The writing style indicates to me that this is someone who has been around for a while.  Does anyone have any further information?  Did I miss this explanation at some point already?  I'm blocked from reading the DUmp this morning, so any help would be appreciated.

I believe that poster has been around quite awhile, going far back in DUmmie chronicles.  It's not a recent name-change.

Just using the search function here, I can see that Tangerine LaBamba started posting under that name sometime around April of 2008.  I just have a sneaking suspicion that they used a different screen name at some point.

Here's the first thread I can find:

Tangerine LaBamba reminds me of another DUmmie, SolCalDem, who is also an older retired woman. Their writing style is similar in that they both use personal anecdotes frequently, complement others often, and they are what I call "opinion shapers."  When DU is on the verge of having the "wrong" opinion one or both of them will repeatedly post and try to steer the consensus to the accepted democratic position. For example, when Palin was announced as VP, no one was aware of who she was. Both of them posted profusely on the Palin and Bristol pregnancies and drove the opinion towards "Palin is a fundy wingnut religious whack job" which DU lapped up. IMO, they might be professional trolls.

Good observations, Kimberly.

We've been reading the DUmmies for so long, this person just seemed way too familiar with the posting patterns (for lack of a better term).

I disremember what first attracted my attention to the Rita Hayworth primitive, the "Tangerine La Bamba" primitive; it was only a few months ago; perhaps it was something she said in the cooking forum on Skins's island.

What soon thereafter caught my eye was when she commented it's been 45 years since she last purchased "cheese food" (i.e., Velveeta), which is why I think she's pretty old, as old as the hills.

She alleges to live in northern Virginia; that sounds credible.

She alleges to be a registered nurse; that sounds credible.

She alleges to have traveled; that sounds credible.

She alleges to have written some books; that sounds reasonably credible.

She alleges to be an attorney; I dunno about that one.

I myself don't think there's any connection between her and the silly primitive, the SoCalDem primitive, who's in her early 60s and bowls with other women her own age.

The silly primitive is just silly, nothing more; the Rita Hayworth primitive appears to have at least some substance to her.

Isn't that the truth! It seems like we've been at this forever sometimes. And the DUmmies all seem the same after awhile. Always whining, always angry, always unhappy. Anyway after searching, I found this thread and do you think Tangerine sounds an awful lot like Old Lefty Lawyer with the sarcastic comments?

I thought OLL got the granite pizza.  She showed up in a DU picture thread yesterday.

Excellent work, Kimberly!  The writing is quite similar.  I recognized something, but couldn't place it.  They really aren't creating new prominent DUmmies.  They don't allow many newbies to make their rotation.

OLL did get bounced, but it was a while ago.  When did OLL get the tombstone....anyone remember?

You're probably right, Frank. Your instincts are much, much better than mine at getting into their heads. Tangerine is likely a real person, but I still think SoCalDem is a construct. The reason I've been paying attention to SoCalDem is she was so vile about Sarah Palin that i developed a huge dislike of her. After reading that primitive's posts for awhile, it started to seem kind of formulaic. Post a little personal story, compliment a few DUmmies, then boom. Post some long screed on some political topic. I started to wonder if it weren't some lefty blogger floating out ideas. Or possibly it's Andrew Sullivan, since they have the same fixation on Trig Palin.
