This pirate/hostage incident is critical

This is not small stuff. Multiple lives are at stake in this incident as we speak and type, an incident that keeps growing by the hour.

I am angry that President Obama is not dropping the hammers of hell on these lawless THUGS.

President Obama, I beseech you, PLEASE, crush them, make them understand that they cannot capture and hold hostage innocents from any country, that ransoms are not even a consideration...shut it the **** down. PLEASE.

1. Obama is letting the experts handle this.

This from the peopel who make a big deal about several minutes Bush spent waiting for the experts to handle things on 9/11.

70. The key is to reestablish sane government in Somalia.

Though I admittedly have no idea how to make that happen - military intervention doesn't seem to be a very good option since the last time we went to Somalia, it turned into a major cluster****.

But if there was a proper government in Somalia, they could have a coast guard that did things like protecting fishing grounds from waste dumping, for example, so Somalis could make a living fishing instead of pirating. Humanitarian aid could be distributed properly instead of being seized by warlords, etc. etc. etc.

I keep reading the "blame it on whitey" type posts on DU - typical I guess.

It is not petty crime. They are armed with automatic weapons and demand ransoms as much as a few

million dollars. And, the hijackings are getting more and more frequent and the pirates more and more sophisticated in their tactics. We need to address this matter-there is nothing petty about it.

So clearly this tactic of paying the jizya ransom is working perfectly - lets extrapolate it to terrorists now.

12. Oh for God's sake

Unless you think you know more about this matter than the President of the United States and his team then you would be well-advised to button it, and refrain from instructing him and his subordinates as to how to do their jobs.

I'm done with this thread.

Of course the dummies think they know more than Obama - Just like they thought they knew more than Bush.

The United States of America should have a ZERO TOLERANCE for this kind of behavior.

If Obama hasn't made a statement yet, I expect he will do so, soon.

We do not pay ransom, and I just hope the Captain is rescued and comes home to his family.......

Lets play "spot the irony".

I keep wondering why the lifeboat didn't get a live fire .50 cal demo when the captain went overboard out of it.  That was the obvious thing to do.

Other than that, we could smash the port of Ely which is a pirate haven.  I don't mean send planes and do precision bombing, I mean pull up a couple of destroyers and smash it to pieces with guns and in full sight of the village.  They would get the point.

The navy ships were to far away and didn't know the captain had made an escape attempt.  Why they were that far away, who knows?

I can only surmise that there was a direct order to stay out of range - there should have been snipers watching and waiting for Target Separation, and as soon as it occurred, they should have lit up that little boat. I suspect thats what the captain thought would have happened. Others have tried to dismiss this as a 'missed opportunity' but that assumes that only one person was watching the target, and missed that chance.

I hear the FBI is in charge of the operation.  That has to be the among the most screwed up things I've ever heard.

I know they're there to negotiate the release of the captain but I'm curious as to what law Holder thinks would allow for the arrest of the pirates were it possible.

There is no virtue in compulsory government charity, and there is no virtue in advocating it. I'll give Obama a pass on that one.  Bush the Elder took Air Force one down to Pensacola, ate at Skopelo's for dinner, got back on Air Force One and flew back to DC.

On the other hand, I advise the presidential dinner (which happens to be what he ordered that night) at Skopelo's it's good.

That's not even close to what the Big Zero has done lately. Pensecola from DC is about a 30 minute flight, where as, flying a pizza chef from St Louis is about 3 hrs. Slight bit of difference in cost. Also, what the hell is this dipshit doing holding a pizza party for 140 people in the midst of a national recession?

Seems I have read he throws these shindigs twice a week. WTF??? Looks like a "let them eat cake" attitude.

It's amazing how far down the rabbit hole the DUmp has gone in the past year, regarding their reverence for the office of President of the United States, among other things.
