My reward for honesty. An unemployment rant.

(boring...you should have said something like- How I stopped being a lying *****, told the truth and got screwed anyway.))

I'm a graphic designer, laid off in December. The first 2.5 months of the year were pretty grim, even for freelance work. I didn't get single project until just recently. Just a one day project, no big deal.

Well, today was my day to "certify" for unemployment, meaning I had to call in and answer a bunch of questions about my job search, etc. in order to get my money. It has been going fine thus far, but today I decided to be honest about that one day project and entered it.

Boy was that a mistake. The system basically kicked me off of the unemployment rolls for working one day. You are either working or not, and if you're no longer working you've either been fired or you quit. There were no options for freelance or temporary work. WTF?

(If you are working, you are not unemployed. I can see where the confusion is.)

Of course the phone system told me I had to call my local office. The problem is my local office isn't even picking up. It goes straight to a voicemail box that says "sorry, mailbox is full" and hangs up on you. So tomorrow I have to go down to the office and spend a minimum of three hours waiting to talk to someone, and who knows if they'll even be able to help me.

(So, you got tto spend three hours in line. Socialized Unemployment- not like you got anything else to do)

Sigh...

The even bigger problem is that I have a few freelance projects coming up. So should I be honest and have to deal with this bullshit all over again for each project? Because I'm sorely tempted to not be so honest next time.

(Here is the crux- Should I be honest or should I lie)

What a stupid system. It basically rewards dishonesty and punishes honesty. Cool.

(it's called the Democratic party system. You should be used to it by now)

Now for the whinnah!

3. Our society political party is all about lying and mediocrity.
In my case, excellence, education and being truthful have all gotten me not-hired or fired from jobs.

In your case, being a fat stupid leftist slob prob'ly didn't help any.

But anyway, where is this bastion of Unemployment torment?

6. Illinois doesn't have that option. At least not on the phone.
So now I have to sit there for hours on end.

lol. it is a stupid thing isn't it? Its not like they couldn't find a way to knock off a bit of the unemployment funds for getting a one-day gig. But then again we are talking about government run bureaucrats. I remember a sister who went to a church charity and got a nice big box of food, no paperwork, no waiting room and no snotty bureaucrats.

Here in Oregon we can earn a certain amount and still collect unemployment.

The DUmmie does realize that freelance work is the same as self-employment, right?

I wonder, what's stopping a graphic artist from advertising on the web?  He could easily setup some sort of business that way.

I wish I could find that video of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog in the unemployment line asking, "So who did YOU vote for???"

I expect getting paid for not working is much easier.
