You people are so misinformed. Calling the ACLU a leftist organization is as wrong as it gets. It fights for ALL of our rights and it often has to take on very unpopular cases to prevent the erosion of our civil liberties. They have fought tooth and nail against everything from the the illegal Bush wiretapping program to the lax searches and seizures that have been invading our rights under the guise of the War on Drugs. They fight against the ridiculous no-fly list.
The ACLU doesn't always take cases I agree with but the purpose is to prevent slippery slopes from ruining our basic liberties. For example, they fought a free speech case on behalf of the KKK. It disgusted me, but it was the right thing to do. Our Free Speech must be protected, even the speech we don't like and find repulsive because if we allow that to happen then who is to say that your speech or my speech won't be next on the chopping block?
Who is to say your precious hate radio won't be attacked next? The ACLU is the largest and most dedicated organization to fighting for Civil Liberties for all Americans and to keep our Constitution in tact. They fight for you and they fight for me and they are definitely NOT partisan.
You people have been told to hate the ACLU because they frustrate the Bush/neocon fascist agenda. Try looking at what they do and what it would mean without them.

The ACLU doesn't protect the Second Amendment rights often because the gun lobby is very strong. The ACLU intentionally takes cases that no one else will. It tries to catch things that would otherwise fall between the cracks yet would create a dangerous precedent.

What are you people going to do when the ACLU isn't there to defend your rights as Christians? Nontheism is quickly growing in the US, and in the future you might wish you still had the ACLU around to defend you.
The ACLU doesn't defend only certain religious groups, racial groups, etc. They fight for anyone whose rights have been violated.
They have fought many cases to defend Christians (who I am assuming the poster associates himself with) as well. For example, they defended a girl whose school censored her yearbook entry because it contained a Bible verse. They also defended a prison inmate who was told he could not preach Christianity in the jail. There are many other cases where the ACLU has been there to defend Christians. They do not simply defend the group which the poster chose to mention.
