Quote
STAMFORD, Connecticut —  Travis the chimpanzee's relationship with his owner was closer than those of some married couples.

Sandra Herold gave him the finest food, and wine in long-stemmed glasses. They took baths together and cuddled in the bed they shared. Travis brushed the lonely widow's hair each night and pined for her when she was away.

If she left the house alone, Travis would give her a kiss.

"If I left with someone Travis would get upset," Herold said Wednesday.

Experts say the unusually human relationship would have been confusing for any animal. It may have also played a role in Travis' savage attack Monday on Herold's friend, 55-year-old Charla Nash of Stamford.

Okay, I can kinda see sleeping in the bed, I mean my two cats sleep with me.  Taking a bath is just strange...but then maybe that's b/c I have cats and there's no way in hell I'd get in a shower with one of them.

Do you serve the cats the finest wines?  If so that cat lady thing may be more than a joke.  :rotf:

Tap water is perfectly fine for animals that lick their own butts.

Oh my....... :-)
I can see November 2 from my house!!!

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

Oh...my.  Isn't there another thread...where that picture belongs?

The comment about the chimp not liking it when the owner left with someone.....the news said the victim had recently cut her long hair off to short....wonder if the chimp thought she was a man and felt jealous?

You have to wonder what the victim's quality of life will be like....she's lost her eyes, her face, and her hands. I'm not sure that I would want to continue.....
Just hand over the chocolate...back away slowly...far away....and you won't get hurt....

Save the Earth... it's the only planet with chocolate.

"My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what I start. So far I've finished two bags of M&M's and a chocolate cake. I feel better already." – Dave Barry

A balanced diet is chocolate in both hands.

I don't know how that poor woman could keep going. It's too awful to even contemplate.

The girl at my office who kept telling me she was saving to buy a little chimp (yes, the Missouri laws are very lax and you can buy about any kind of exotic animal here) finally listened to me. I've been telling her for a couple months that something like this could happen.

I hope other people think before they get any primate or other exotics. The problem is, they think that when it grows up they can give it away to a zoo. They can't. Most zoos don't have room and won't take animals without knowing it's history. They keep stud books, like the AKC dogs, where they'll recommend breeding along certain lines. An unknown wouldn't be accepted, plus there would be too many behavioral problems with an animal that had been kept as a pet, suddenly in a very different environment.

The animals also wouldn't know how to get along with others of their species. Most have only been with people and tend to be neurotic.
