An example of socialized medicine.
Mother has Alzheimer's. We are in a clinical study, and I have had excellent advice.

Over the past three days, she has suffered a steep decline. One of the researchers told me if their was a steep decline, something else was going on. I called Son, and off to the local hospital we went.

Well, it is pneumonia. She's in the hospital, and doing better. I left this about 8 when she was all settled in with her meds and asleep. I am heading back tomorrow (she hates unfamiliar places and people, besides all the tubes are driving her crazy.)

But I got to thinking. I am going to walk out of the hospital with Mother in a couple of days and that is the end. And that will be the end. No bills, no copays, no deductibles, nicht, zilch, nada.

You see Mother has socialized medicine. Daddy (can a Southern woman of indeterminate age still call her father, "Daddy", you betcha) spent 22 years in the military. He served during Korea and in Vietnam. He was promised that if something happened to him, his dependent(s) would be taken care of.

Let's look at a couple of "socialized medicine" myths.

1. I don't want the government deciding what doctor I can see or hospital I can use.

Mother can see any doctor in the US that will give her an appointment. Any doctor, any hospital, anywhere.

2. I don't want the government deciding what medical care I can have.

Mother receives the care the doctors say she needs. Her doctors, not the insurance company doctors. No pre-certification. No calling before hand begging. She sees the doctors, they decide and BOOM...she gets the care. No delay.

She does not pay a premium based on the fact that she is 83 with Alzheimer's, a previous heart attack or the fact that we have ovarian cancer in our family. She has no pre-existing conditions...even if she does not know she has pre-existing conditions.

She just gets health care, and no bullsh*t insurance company whining.

God, I wish I had that.

You still have to call and request a visit through TRICARE. They tell you what doctors you can go to. They tell you what procedures they will cover. They review the claim and pay only what they will pay- you cover the rest. In the case where the hospital bills you for something that TRICARE did not approve- you pay. If the hospital screws up the  billing numbers- you pay, until you can get it cleared.

Our son has a serious condition, when we moved we came back to a place with three major military bases. You would think that TRICARE could set him up with a new primary doctor pretty quick. Our first appointment? May.

Something doesn't sound right about the DUmmies story.  I haven't had to deal
with a VA Hospital in a while, but I didn't think they could treat dependents.

On edit:  I meant retired veterans dependents.

Everything's wrong with the story. Didn't cost her anything? My ass. Those days have been over for quite some time.

Clearly the DUmbass is ill-informed but what would a bouncy be without lots of wrong/mis-directed uinformation and bald faced lies.

Also the DUchebag might want to look at what the unicorned skittle pooper put in about senior care inthe porkulus bill.  He followed the Daschle concept of old people should get used to dying.  In the great new socialist state of the affirmative action preziident her mother will get no care as there is no use to the state for her and it would cost too much.

Correction, Jukin:  Dying in pain. 
I think I posted here before that I wrote the AARP, strenuously objecting to this part of porkulus.  They wrote back and said "don't worry, be happy, trust the Messiah, everything will be great."  I wrote back and said "thanks, but I'm not buying it."  They wrote back this morning and said "No, really!" 

Anyway, this is definitely a bouncy because none of this stuff goes as swimmingly as she's claiming.  There's always a nasty surprise in the mailbox in a few weeks.  Always.

The Bouncy author is ill informed. Tricare isn't free,although the annual premiums and copays are less than most folks monthly premiums. Tricare is a managed care/PPO setup. Although they do cover a lot of things there area lot of things not covered and it is wise to have private insurance to cover those items,plus you will need the private insurance once your medicare kicks in.
