Israel offers Gaza aid corridor

Israel has agreed to set up a humanitarian corridor in the Gaza Strip, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has said.

Israel's military will open up "areas for limited periods of time, during which the population will be able to receive the aid", it said.

The office said the goal was to "prevent a humanitarian crisis".

Egypt has proposed a ceasefire at an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council in a move backed by the US.

4. so they'll let in some basic supplies and then start bombing again.

I don't see much to celebrate in that.

5. I don't see anyone requesting celebration.

I do see Israel making concessions and the typical bitching about doing so.

7. I don't see a concession here at all. You know I'm neither anti-Israel or anti-semitic and that what I say doesn't flow from either of those places, but honestly I see Israel committing a war crime. And allowing desperately needed basic supplies in and then resuming bombing, killing and terrifying a trapped population, is hardly a concession or a humanitarian action.

I don't see how you can support what Israel is doing.

Wow.  There's a lot of "named removed" comments at this bonfire.

You know, I used to like the 0bamaite cali primitive; in fact, at one time she was ranked as a first-tier primitive, the second-highest ranking anyone on Skins's island can reach.

But then when the 0bamaite cali primitive's heart and soul turned black and hard and bitter, full of Hate for the worthier Democrat candidate for president, I had second thoughts, and demoted the 0bamaite cali primitive down to third-tier primitivity.

Third-tier primitives are rabble-rousers of the unterprimitiven, the faceless lynch mob, the amorphous blob, the largest segment of primitives on Skins's island.

Now I'm starting to wonder if the 0bamaite cali primitive doesn't belong among the les risibles, the laughable ones, two tiers further down, just one tier above the lowest of the lowest primitives.

24. What I find interesting is that they never seem to run out of rockets and missles - only food and medicine. Wonder why that is.

Yea, you'd think Iran could have ponied up some more medicine to go with all of those rockets.

8. Hamas should have thought about that before it decided to start lobbing Grad missiles deep into Israeli territory, killing people.

The Palestinians in Gaza should be furious with Hamas for placing them in so much danger.

12. The Palestinians are furious with Israel because of the jack boot on their throats

Israel 'allows food and fuel into Gaza'. This is how the Palestinians live, only by what Israel 'allows'.

And people can't figure out why they keep firing rockets into Israel.

14. Israel, in case you forget, left Gaza. And in return, they get a terrorist organization running the government, lobbing more sophisticated rockets 20 miles into Israeli territory.

Tell me again what Israel did during the cease fire to deserve this.

Hamas has obviously spent the entire time arming itself.

I have zero sympathy for Hamas. Not even a crocodile tear do I have for them.

18. Israel broke the cease fire on Nov 4th.

I don't have any sympathy for Hamas either. I do however have a lot of sympathy for the civilians in Gaza who are being slaughtered by Israel.

40. I'm fairly sure Gaza borders another country...

The Palestinians were ruled once by Egypt and Jordan with no complaints. Maybe that is the solution. Give that territory back to Egypt.

13. look, lobbing missiles into Israel is wrong but a couple of points: the wrong that Hamas is doing, doesn't justify the wrong perpetrated by Israel, and the lobbing of missiles, traumatic and awful as it is, kills very, very few Israelis. Furthermore, the bloody attacks on Gaza, play right into the hands of Hamas. Attacking Gaza and killing hundreds of civilians won't stop the missile attacks and it will increase support for Hamas and further radicalize Gazans and Palestinians on the WB.

17. Your first sentence is all that needs to be said.

It's irrelevant that Hamas' missiles kill "very, very few Israelis."

What they do is send people in a panic amid the sound of sirens, racing to safe shelters.

They terrorize, which in the mind of a lunatic is a more delicious effect.

Hamas knew Israel would pound them in a revenge assault.

This was not a shock. They asked for it and now they're getting it.

Sad, but Israel didn't throw the first punch.

And they're well aware of Israel's history of fighting back.

19. no, it's not. Your blind, one sided support of Israel is the prism you look through. Hamas may deserve what they're getting, but Gazan civilians, a population you show a callous indifference to, do not. And the attack on Gaza will not make Israelis safer.

21. I actually do care about the civilian populations...certainly far more than Hamas does, since they have no problem at all placing their people in harm's way.

You know, placing rocket launchers next to homes packed with women and children.

They know all of the dirty tricks.

And that pisses me off far more than anything Israel is doing.

Hundreds of lives could have been saved if some Hamas assholes, overflowing with testosterone, hasn't decided to lob Grad missiles deep into Israeli territory.

All of my fury is saved up specifically for those Hamas pr*cks.

The 0bamaite cali primitive, conceding defeat, leaves, and the squibble-squabbling among the primitives continues, not worth copying-and-pasting.

37. That's okay if you disagree with me. I have a lot of friends in real life who disagree with me.

It's life.

This is a divisive issue, and it's a hard issue obviously, otherwise there would be peace by now.

But in this particular situation, it was Hamas that struck first.

We can argue whether the return strike was disproportional.

But I am far more furious with Hamas than I am with Israel.

But I respect your opinion of course.

I don't understand why liberals are always concerned about 'disproportional retaliation'.  If you punch me in the face and I put you in the hospital for it you will be far less likely to punch me in the face again.  OTOH, if you punch me in the face and I punch you back twice .... well, you may go lick your wounds and we will have to do it all over again.

My advice; If you don't want to be put in the hospital don't run around punching folks in the face.

See, solving ME tension isn't so hard!   :-)

Isn't Cboy a fudge packing pole smoker?

Yeah, he is.

However, one has to consider these things:

(a) the cboy4 primitive's one of those gay primitives who isn't whining as much as the other gay primitives on Skins's island; he's whined some, but compared with all the others, he's barely mumbled a whisper.

(b) the cboy4 primitive, unlike most of the gay primitives who subsist on social security disability and other social programs because of "depression," actually works for a living.

(c) --and this is the most important thing for me--during the strife between the 0bamaite primitives, and those primitives supporting the worthier Democrat candidate for president, while many of the latter got discouraged and left Skins's island, the cboy4 primitive steadfastly and stoutly stood his ground, against the overwhelming Hate, contempt, intolerance, harassment, humiliation, bigotry, of the 0bamaite primitives.

(d) the cboy4 primitive, unlike all the other gay primitives on Skins's island, once in a while betrays a certain joie d'vivre, a love of life, an optimism, absent from his glum negative morose peers.  The cboy4 primitive by the way is a "regular" in the sports forum on Skins's island, although one can hardly be fond of his favorite teams.

The cboy4 primitive is of course a primitive--a second-tier primitive, which all things considered is pretty high in primitivity, only two levels above it--but I cut him a little tiny minuscule bit of slack because of (a), (b), especially (c), and (d).

Idiot, the ceasefire was broken when Hamas thougth it was OK to dig the tunnel.  Period.

Report: Hamas stealing aid supplies to sell to residents

Grim picture of Gazans' lives painted by reports emerging from Strip, claiming gunmen hiding in civilian homes, using residents as human shields, and hijacking trucks of humanitarian aid

Roee Nahmias Published: 01.06.09, 22:32 / Israel News

A government or a gang? As the Israeli operation in Gaza wears on it appears Hamas has relinquished any visage of a socio-political party, abandoning its claim to govern the residents of Gaza in favor of engaging in open war at their expense.

A number of reports from the Strip paint a picture of very difficult humanitarian conditions, not least because of Hamas itself. The suspicion is that the group's operatives have seized control of any supplies passing through the crossings – including those sent by Israel and international organizations.

Reports say Hamas takes a cut out of all aid that arrives, including flour and medicine. Supplies intended to be distributed without gain among the population is seized by the group and sold to the residents, at a profit to the Hamas government.

One such incident was recorded Monday, when a convoy of trucks carrying supplies through the Kerem Shalom crossing was opened fire upon and seized by Hamas gunmen. Similar incidents occurred with trucks carrying fuel.

In other cases, civilians are simply used as cannon fodder or human shields. Reports out of Gaza say residents who attempted to flee their homes in the northern area of the Strip were forced to go back at gunpoint, by Hamas men.

The organization is presumably interested in increasing civilian casualties in order to give rise to international pressure against Israel. Arab media reported that in an IDF strike on a UN school 30 civilians were killed, but there is no legitimate way to prove gunmen were among those killed as Hamas tends to bury these bodies quickly, thus eliminating evidence in Israel's favor.

Other civilian complaints state that Hamas gunmen pull children along with them "by the ears" from place to place, fearing that if they don't have a child with them they will be fair game to the IDF. Others hide in civilian homes and stairwells, UNRWA ambulances, and mosques.

In other reported cases Hamas gunmen hold civilians hostage in alleyways in order to provide themselves with a living barricade to ward off IDF forces. Reports somewhat more difficult to verify say the group's men shot Fatah operatives in the feet to make sure the latter would not attempt a coup.
