Why is the Obama campaign still asking for money?

And if you make a donation of any amount before midnight tonight, you could be selected to come to Washington, D.C., and be part of the welcome ceremony, the swearing in, the Inaugural Parade, and the Inaugural Community Ball.

Will you make a donation of $25 or more and be part of the historic moment you made possible?

We have a long road ahead of us, and we're going to face some major challenges as soon as we start. But I know I can count on you every step of the way.

2. He's gonna have to run again in 2012.

Plus, we have to prepare for the Joe Biden / Hillary Clinton 2016 Presidential ticket.

11. Maybe it's because some of us have missed the OP's when they are here? Some of us do other stuff besides reading DU all day, every day.

It is not an unreasonable question.

15. If you gave to the obama campaign and they have your email, then you are getting the appeal in your email in box.

I never read about this on DU.

I see it in my in box regularly.

But if you didn't give to the campaign and supply your email, then you aren't getting asked to give, so you wouldn't be getting an appeal. If you aren't getting an appeal, why are you wondering why you are getting an apeal for money?

4. He's raising money for the inauguration

It's not paid for out of campaign funds or by the taxpayers. The inaugural committee has a goal of $40 million and last I heard they were at $27 million.

12. Yep! I am amazed at how many people aren't aware of why he is raising money.

He says so right in his appeals, clear as a bell.

13. I can read. But why am I supposed to pay for the inauguration?

I thought Obama was supposed to help the American people, not keep hitting us up for money. I think asking us to pay for the inauguration is totally inappropriate.

6. I was wondering the same thing

I am wondering how to pay the electric bill this month. I don't recall being asked to donate to a candidate once they have been elected.

And no, I do not want to be on The Mall in D.C. on that historic day - 1 bathroom to each 6000 people does not sound like very much fun at all to me. I will be happy to watch it from here.

7. Debt maybe?

Kind of related - just read that an acquaintance received and invitation. He thought it was fake for a couple of hours at first, lol

This reminds me of that trick the National Socialists in Germany used to pull, 1933-1945.

Even after the great socialist Adolph Hitler was firmly in power, and the National Socialist Party the only party allowed to exist, the National Socialists were still demanding contributions.

I dunno if anybody else has noticed it, but those old black-and-white photographs of uniformed guys sticking cans in front of pedestrians on the sidewalk, looking as if they're going to beat up the person if he didn't dump some reichsmarks into the can, that's what was going on.

One couldn't even walk the dog or go to the grocery store without being approached.
