Tiahrt preparing for Senate race in Kansas

TOPEKA | Rep. Todd Tiahrt is laying the groundwork for a Senate campaign and says he's "very serious about doing this."

Tiahrt told The Associated Press that he's been traveling the state and making numerous phone calls about a Senate bid in 2010.

He says he has received a lot of support and plans to make an announcement soon about a steering committee.

He would be seeking the seat now held by Sam Brownback, a fellow Republican who is widely expected to run for governor in 2010. Rep. Jerry Moran, also a Republican, has announced plans to run for the Senate.

Tiahrt represents the 4th District of south-central Kansas. Moran represents the 1st District of western and central Kansas.

Tiahrt was first elected to the House in 1994.

I dunno.  It makes sense.

The Democrat congressman can run for the U.S. Senate, giving up his seat in the House of Representatives.  The Democrat candidate for the U.S. Senate in Kansas can't win that election.  And in the meantime, his seat in the House is an open seat, meaning a possible Republican pick-up in 2010.

I like it.

This bonfire's been up a while, but no primitives have been to it.

Does a guy with a type-o for a last name really have a chance?

Well, I suspect the dysmenopausal Kansas school teacher is dreaming.

It's like she's expecting the Democrat tidal wave to roll on and on and on forever, the Democrats unceasingly picking up more and strong Republican seats.

I think the dysmenopausal Kansas school teacher should read up on the nature of tides.

I'm not from Kansas, but I'm pretty close to Kansas.

Let the Democrat congressman give up his House seat and run for the Senate.

That makes his congressional seat a toss-up, and probably even marginally Republican, and he's not going to be elected to the Senate anyway.

Tides go back-and-forth, you know.
