Checking in...
« on: November 08, 2008, 07:25:29 PM »
I'm currently at Tybee Island, GA, hanging out with my family in this cute little cottage.

http://www.fishcampcottage.com/

The cottage, as of right now, looks so much better than it does in the photos...the fact that there are plants in BLOOM right now is absolutely amazing to an Atlantan like me.  Usually everything I see is dead.  We've got HIBISCUS plants in full bloom right now...absolutely gorgeous.

As soon as my cellphone recharges, I'll post my photos.

Today, we actually split up...my mom and I went to a small art and crafts show, where my mom went crazy and bought a teak table and bench (made from the roots of teak trees in Indonesia).  I didn't buy anything, myself, shockingly enough.   Grandmother and cousin went to a lighthouse and Fort Pulaski.   We met for lunch at The Sugar Shack, then went back to the cottage for awhile.  THEN, we went on a Movie tour of Savannah via motorcoach.  Got to see the area where Forrest Gump's bench was (it's not there now).  Saw some of the houses (Mercer House was gorgeous) and government buildings that have appeared in various movies, like Forrest Gump, Something To Talk About, etc.  At the end of the tour, the driver took us to Leopold's (ice cream shop) for free ice cream.  THAT is quality ice cream, considering they only make it in 5 gallon batches.  ;)

My family leaves tomorrow, but it was nice to see them for a couple of days.

I wish I hadn't left my charger behind... I'd be posting the pics tonight.  :(  (I have to e-mail the pics, and that eats up a lot of power).

The cottage is older(lacks A/C, which isn't even needed right now), but the owners succeeded in making it a livable environment, along with wireless internet and Comcast Cable tv (the owners purchased something extra, it seems,  as I can access a lot of the premium channels...HBO, Encore, Showtime, etc. )  I'm watching Die Hard on Encore right now.

Only problem is that there is something in this house (or around it) that I'm allergic to.  I couldn't breathe last night when I tried to sleep.  I know what my allergies are (pecan and hickory), but I don't see where they are, unless there's something else that I'm allergic to.  :(

Okay, got one photo... this is the cottage as it is now (I was sitting in mom's Highlander) just before we left for the art show.

And a hibiscus blossom (one of many) growing in the front yard... I sometimes forget that this area is a little more tropical, given its location.  :thatsright:

Cute cottage!
I can see November 2 from my house!!!

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle
