Japanese launch campaign to marry comic book characters
« on: October 30, 2008, 12:10:20 PM »
Quote
In a reflection of the nation's growing obsession with escaping reality, more than 1,000 people have signed an on-line petition to present to the government to establish a law permitting marriage to comic characters.

Comic books known as "manga", animated "anime" films and on-line virtual reality games have become increasingly popular in Japan, with fictitious characters frequently elevated to celebrity status.

Among the most high profile of manga fans is the current prime minister Taro Aso, who recently complained he had not had time to read any comic books since taking office last month.

The on-line campaign for cartoon marriages was masterminded by Taichi Takashita who claimed he was motivated to pursue the unusual change in law because he felt more at ease in the "two dimensional world" than reality.

"I am no longer interested in three dimensions. I would even like to become a resident of the two-dimensional world," he wrote.

I think Zaphod Breeblebrox said it best:

Quote
"Mr Beeblebrox, sir," said the insect in awed wonder, "you're so weird you should be in movies."

"Yeah," said Zaphod patting the thing on a glittering pink wing,"and you, baby, should be in real life."

I haven't supported this concept ever since Wonder Woman dumped me.
I haven't seen the Invisible Girl in like, forever.
Black Canary has a restraining order against me.
and Bat Girl won't return my calls.

Take it from me, guys. Comic strip gals are bad news! besides you'll get paper cut in places ya just don't wanna think about.

Two problems  with this, one, the characters do get married often (for instance Godai Yusaku and Otanashi Kyoko being good examples)

And second, most of the manga are about kids 16-19.  Most of them are too young to marry.  Best term for most of these girls is "jailbait"

And what rational guy whould want to marry Akane Tendo?  Even if she were legal.  Her main rival, Shampoo, is even weirder.

And if the girls are strange, don't forget the guys either.  Sesuke Sagura for starters.

And just image the offspring of some of the pairs.  For example, could the the world survive the progeny of Sesuke Sagar and Chidori Kaname?
An optimist sees the glass as half full, a pessimist sees the glass as half empty, an engineer sees that there is twice the glass required to contain the beer

How about Kagomi -- she is 14 or so.
