One of my friends just called from Cleveland, she lives in AZ
she is on her way to Maine and took the shuttle to the airport this morning and they refused her credit card saying they arent taking credit cards so she had to pay cash. This is not due to her not having money as she has a lot of money and pays for everything with credit cards.I told her yesterday to go get money from the bank and not to rely on her credit card but am amazed that they refused to accept credit cards.Has this happened to anyone else???

10. I'm certain this is not all the information. Lots of businesses don't take credit cards;
that doesn't mean the sky is falling. It means they take cash. Do busses take credit cards?

11. That had to be some sort of technical glitch. No, see edit, sorry

Ain't gonna happen.

Darn few merchants will either.

Heck, I bought a car with one yesterday, $14K...  :bouncy: :bouncy: :bouncy:

edit: OOPS, I thought you meant one of the airline shuttles! I rarely use a pay ground shuttle, mostly hotel no-charge buses (of course I toss a couple dollar tip to the driver)

14. We should be telling them this:
If you don't unlock the credit cards so we can use them, we will stop sending you payments ON them.

Personally, I think the CC companies can go pound sand, but that's just me. Credit card contracts are the only contracts I know of that can be altered at will by one party to the contract.

HOW is that even legal to begin with?
The stupid is strong with this one...  :whatever:

20. Yesterday at local grocery store
the store refused the lady in front of me credit card

Overheard the conversation... they are, for the moment, refusing any card issued by any affected bank... hers was WAMU

And I will be surprised if a local merchant I know accepts credit cards by the end of the month
ANOTHER Corner Market Bouncy...

24. As I said, I saw a WAMU card rejected yesterday

and I would not be too surprised if your friend's situation is related.

For the record, anecdotally, a friend of my brother in law had his account frozen until all the transfer, et al to the new owners gets settled

Last night I was thinking of posting a poll for when we though the first "Credit Crunch" bouncy would show up.

The DUmmies never fail.  Any major event usually causes some bouncies with 24 hours.  Remember the phone tapping ones?
All at once everyone on the island started hearing strange clicks on their home phones.

I'm calling bullshit.

I can't remember how long ago it was that the airlines stopped taking cash at the ticket counter for anything.  If it wasn't a credit or debit card, forget it.  They removed their cash drawers, and had no equipment on hand for validating and accepting checks.  Airlines liked this move because it was one less area where they could lose money (the transfer between the cash drawer and the safe or the deposit bag), and the government liked it because it meant there was an electronic record of everybody who bought a flight, and where they were headed.

I'm starting to think it MIGHT have been a Federal Mandate after the 9/11 hijackings.

Let me guess what probably really happened.

This person did not prearrange or prepay a shuttle trip from her hotel to the airport but just hopped on one when it was pulled up front at 6:00 am.
Upon reaching the airport the shuttle driver was looking for payment and she handed him/her a credit card which at that time of day there was no chance anyone was around to run it through the machine.

Just speculation of course but I think a reasonable explanation that fills in all the holes DUmmies leave in their little stories.

Primitives lie.

No shuttle service could stay in business if they didn't accept credit cards.

Take it from a million+ mile traveler.

Of course, this entire anecdote occurred only in the imagination of DUmmy az chela. But you have to remember that for most DUmmies, having a credit card refused has always been a common problem. Few of them pay bills on time, if at all. If they have a valid card, it would be one of those deadbeat cards that require some type of upfront payment.

I can only assume that you meant he crashed his car into a house or someone crashed their car into his house or some similar crash.
The market took quite a hit yesterday but it was nothing like the end of the world or something.

I've used a Discover, Vsa, and a Master Card today.  NOT ONE PROBLEM.

BTW, what crash?
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Don't the dummies realize no one will accept payment by credit if you are over your credit limit and the system rejects your card.
It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.
