what is a liberal?
Advertisements [?]Whenever a repuke begins to froth at the mouth and accuse liberals of everything i ask them to define liberal. Most of them choke on the answer or come up with crap such as "they take away from the rich to give to the poor and they want to take away our guns."
How on earth is it possible to have a sensible conversation with a repuke? It isn't because their ignorance is only superseded by their insecurity and desperate attempt to hang on to the old (like Linus's blanket).

1. Most of them define it as "anything I don't like"

I'm not quite confident that I can say I'm not sometimes guilty of the same thing in the other direction, though. I dunno; political ideologies are slippery things.

4. Exactly. I'd be interested to hear people's definition of a conservative here
As a test to see whether we're guilty of the same thing.

3. If you are a conservative or a neocon,
a liberal is someone to hate. Someone who represents Other. Someone who belongs to a group that held onto Congress for decades prior to 1996 and Newt Gingrich's Contract "on" America.

In the classical sense a liberal believes in freedom.  In today's sense it is a totalitarian collectivist.

To review, today's liberal is the exact opposite of the classical definition of a liberal.

Class dismissed.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

A misnomer. The true name is a Communist/Fascist.

I'll go with this one.
"Timid men prefer the calm of despotism to the tempestuous sea of Liberty." - Thomas Jefferson

"All you have to do is look straight and see the road, and when you see it, don't sit looking at it - walk!" -Ayn Rand

"Those that trust God with their safety must yet use proper means for their safety, otherwise they tempt Him, and do not trust Him.  God will provide, but so must we also." - Matthew Henry, Commentary on 2 Chronicles 32, from Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible

"These anti-gun fools are more dangerous to liberty than street criminals or foreign spies."--Theodore Haas, Dachau Survivor

I've asked the same question, but usually it's worded more like "What IS that thing!?!"

What's the difference between a liberal and a communist?
The communist admits it.

Does anyone know the difference between a Liberal and a Libertarian?

Liberals:

Ones who consider the USA, morality, decency, conservatism, religion, individualism, ambition, charity, capitalism and normality to be a big bolder in their path to one-world domination.

(Why in the world would anyone "choke" when asked to define a liberal?)

Liberal: Someone who wants to do what they think is good with YOUR money.

Proof: Joe Biden's charitable giving over the last ten years.  While making north of seven figures each year he gave an average of $350 per year to charity.  He gave an average of $3500 per year per tax payer of our money to failed social programs.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.
