Neuralink Blindsight Trial: What to Expect in the First Human Vision Implants

Update, October 2026: Neuralink has not yet announced a Blindsight trial. Its visual prosthesis page still invites people to join the registry to be told when US trials launch.

What Neuralink's Blindsight is

Blindsight is Neuralink's second major product line, distinct from the Telepathy device currently implanted in PRIME and VOICE trial patients. Where Telepathy reads signals from the motor and speech cortices to translate intent into action, Blindsight works in the opposite direction: it writes information into the brain. Specifically, it stimulates neurons in the visual cortex to produce the sensation of sight.

The goal is ambitious. Neuralink has stated that Blindsight could eventually restore vision to people who have lost their sight through injury or disease, and even to people born blind, provided their visual cortex developed normally.

This company of Musk's so contradicts Progs' stereotyped image of billionaires that I would be utterly unsurprised if some Progs are trying to dissuade people who could be benefited from participating in the upcoming trial (and if some in the FDA are slow-walking the approval for the trial). Because Musk.
