UN Ambassador Bursts Mamdani's Bubble Over His Wish to Arrest Israeli PM Netanyahu in NYC

New York City, as the home of the United Nations headquarters, is hosting the U.N. General Assembly in the fall. And Democratic Socialist NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani expressed during a recent interview with a New York Times interviewer that he's holding onto a deeply-held wish and campaign promise: to have Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrested when the world leader arrives in his city to attend it.

“I believe that Prime Minister Netanyahu belongs in the Hague,” Mr. Mamdani told Lulu Garcia-Navarro this week on “The Interview,” a New York Times show, referring to the home of the United Nations’ International Court of Justice.

“He’s a war criminal who has been charged by the International Criminal Court,” Mr. Mamdani added. “And what you will find is that is an opinion that is held by many, purely because of what his actions have wrought over these last many years.”

Mamdani wasn't finished, though, admitting that he's not 100 percent sure "whether he has the legal authority" to do it, and to that end, he's still consulting with his administration's Law Department.

Well, we do still have the First Amendment, so I say let him talk. Someone else with thoughts on Mamdani's empty threat was U.S. Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz, who only needed four bullet points to dispense with the mayor's obvious "political theater":

Mayor Mamdani: here’s why your threat to arrest PM Netanyahu’s in NYC during UNGA is not going to happen:

1. The U.S. is not party to the Rome Statute that underlies the ICC,

2. The UN Headquarters Agreement grants diplomatic protections to visiting heads of gov’t,

3. head-of-state immunity applies, &

4. federal authority trumps any local mayor’s wishes.

This is pure political theater.

Were it not that NYPD offocers would be the ones stuck with trying to do it, I'd love to see Mamdani try to arrest Netanyahu.

Linda Sarsour Says Jake Tapper Is A White Nationalist

Tapper called out Women’s March and Sarsour after the organization expressed its support for convicted cop-killer and domestic terrorist Assata Shakur. Tapper also referenced “ugly sentiments” from Sarsour and recent anti-Semitic statements made by a Chicago-based LGBT activist group.

Sarsour responded by saying that Tapper has joined “the ranks of the alt-right to target me online.” (There is no evidence to suggest that Tapper is a member of the alt-right.) “Welcome to the party,” she added.

Sarsour challenged Tapper to “please share” evidence of her ugly sentiments. “Unapologetically Muslim? Unapologetically Palestinian? Pro-immigrant? Pro-justice?” she asked. “Shame.”

Tapper responded by pointing to comments Sarsour made about activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali, who frequently speaks out against radical Islam. Sarsour expressed her desire to take Ali’s vagina away, saying she doesn’t deserve to be a woman. Ali is a survivor of female genital mutilation (FGM) and has spoken out against the brutal practice.

Tapper is caught up in a Proggier Than Thou cat-fight.

House Republicans urged Mamdani to turn his attention to problems within the five boroughs rather than attempting to involve local police in international affairs.

"Mamdani is threatening to arrest the head of one of our closest allies," House Republicans said on X. "He should stop politicizing local law enforcement and interfering with US foreign policy and instead focus on rising rent and housing prices and antisemitism in NYC."

This isn’t a college protest. This is the City of New York," (Former NYC Mayor Eric) Adams said on X. "Threatening to arrest the democratically elected leader of one of America’s closest allies during U.N. General Assembly week isn’t bold. It’s reckless."

Republican New York City Councilwoman Vickie Paladino went further, arguing on X that any effort to carry out the ICC warrant would amount to rebellion against federal authority.

"Just so we’re clear, this would be an act of insurrection," Paladino said. "The United States is not a party to the ICC and it has no jurisdiction in this country. No law enforcement agency at any level has the authority to enforce its orders."
