NYT Deliberately Withheld the Most Explosive Graham Platner Allegations From Its Own Story

When the New York Times spoke with Lyndsey Fifield about her experiences with Graham Platner, the paper made promises. Representatives of the paper said they would protect her, that men couldn't keep getting away with it. They collected her diary pages, her screenshots, her contacts, and walked away with everything she had. Then they published their story.

The story they published was damning, but, according to Fifield, they omitted the most serious allegation.

Fifield had every reason to stay quiet. She described her current life as genuinely good, raising two young daughters in a safe neighborhood, working from home, active in her church, and surrounded by close friends and family. She knew exactly what violent leftist activists would do with her name once it was out there.
...
So she let two New York Times journalists into her home and handed over everything. Diary pages. Screenshots. Phone numbers. Contacts.
...
"I bucked all advice from my friends (and resisted my conservative bias) and decided to fully trust the Times journalists," Fifield said. She declined to speak to any other outlets and kept her promise through weeks of delays.

But then the story ran, and it was nothing like what she expected.

“After the story went up I began to ask them… wait, where are the stories from the other women? Where are their accusations of sexual assault? Why am I the focus? Why are there 11 paragraphs dedicated to detailing my work history (more than has been published about Graham’s by far)?” she asked.

That’s right: The New York Times spiked accusations of sexual assault from the other women (who were Democrats) in their article, instead focusing on her and highlighting her work as a Republican operative.

"Why does it say 'nobody could corroborate' when I offered them sources that COULD corroborate?" she continued. Those friends confirmed to the Times that Fifield had told them about Platner's abuse years before he ever announced a run for office. The Times left that out, too.

She drew the only conclusion that fit. .... "The journalists I trusted who convinced me to share a story I never wanted to tell methodically delayed and twisted this into a gift to the Platner campaign. Violating the trust of his victims. Shattering the trust I placed in them with the most vulnerable story of my life."

The NYT withheld some of the more serious accusations, falsely called Fifield's accusations uncorroborated, and made her name public for any "vengeance"-inclined Dems/Progs.

As Instapundit Glenn Reynolds frequently posts, no matter how much you detest the MSM, you do not detest them enough.
If The Vaccine is deadly as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, millions now living would have died.

The left decries Trump's use of the phrase "enemy of the people" to describe the MSM, but with stuff like this, what else can you call them?

Platner Accuser Slams New York Times for Watering Down Her Abuse Story to Help His Campaign

The Times dropped a report on Thursday detailing allegations from several women Platner dated. They claimed the candidate engaged in misogynistic and physically intimidating behavior. Lyndsey Fifield, a Virginia-based Republican operative who previously dated the candidate, detailed an incident in which he allegedly twisted her arm behind her back and locked her in a room.

However, she said the report did not cover the enormity of what Platner allegedly did to her in their relationship. In a lengthy post on X, she went into more detail about his alleged abusive tendencies.

“Anyone who has ever extracted themselves from a relationship with a narcissistic abuser knows it isn’t clean or easy,” Fifield wrote. “I cringe remembering how many times I tried to play the ‘cool girl’ or fawn in response to what was clearly abusive, coercively controlling behavior by Graham.”
...
After seeing former Rep. Eric Swalwell’s downfall, she reversed course. She told them her story and even “let them take pictures of my diary pages.” She sent screenshots of her message exchanges with Platner.

“I explained very clearly that, like many women abused by their partners, I had not told anyone about his violence at the time—I had covered for and defended it. I accepted his earnest apologies. They said that’s fine because the diary entries and my on the record story was enough,” Fifield wrote.

The reporters connected her to other victims and she told them they were “doing the right thing” even though they had misgivings. Fifield also realized that Platner was in a relationship with one of the other victims while she was dating him.
...
The editors said these details were “too much” to include, according to Fifield. But the outlet also did not include the fact that she told her friends about her ordeal with Platner “long before he was running for office.”

Fifield further suggests that the Times sat on the story and stalled publication because they wanted a way to turn it into “a gift to the Platner campaign” by leaving out the more salacious details.

Lyndsey Fifield, whose allegations formed the centerpiece of a Times report published Thursday, said reporters "methodically delayed and twisted" her account and excluded allegations from other women, including claims of sexual assault.

In a series of posts on X, Fifield said she ignored warnings from friends and chose to trust Times reporters Lisa Lerer and Katie Glueck.

"They connected me to two of the other victims so we wouldn't feel so alone," Fifield wrote. "I insisted to each of them that I trusted the NYT journalists and that we were doing the right thing despite their ... sense that something was wrong."

According to Fifield, reporters repeatedly requested additional evidence and documentation before publication.

"They kept coming back to us saying the editors needed more," she wrote. "I met every benchmark they set, eager to provide more sources or evidence as needed."

But after the story was published, Fifield said she was stunned by what was left out.

"Where are the stories from the other women? Where are their accusations of sexual assault? Why am I the focus?" she wrote, questioning why the article devoted extensive attention to her work history while excluding evidence and corroborating sources she said were provided to reporters.
...
The Times article included accounts from three women who had relationships with Platner.

In addition to Fifield, former girlfriend Jenny Racicot was quoted as saying Platner "does not respect women," while a third woman, who was not identified, described herself as "collateral damage to the world that is his."
