I know from experience of playing Paintball while doing recruiting duty with the National Guard that getting hit with just one of those does hurt which is why they tell you to wear Eye protection. I got hit on top of my head and that really hurt. And also, how many years have LEO's used the less than lethal rounds to quell or stop protest/riots? I'm sorry that he got hurt like that but it's too late to fix an injury like that after the fact.
I had a guy who worked for me on the weekends about 20 years ago that got hooked on paintball. The first time he got hit in the head, he went with the full helmet along with eye protection. Then, on a very cold day, he got hit in the groin area, and by “groin area” I mean right in the bullseye. He said it left a purple bruised area about the size of a softball. I think he started wearing a cup after that.
