Judge: Bob Barr will be on Pa.'s presidential ballot
« on: September 16, 2008, 09:39:37 AM »

in a normal election year, I would say that PA just got that much harder to win for mccain/palin.  but given
barr's position on the war, for example, and palin's presence on the ticket, I'm not quite as sure about who
he will hurt the most this year.  probably still mccain.

the mccain campaign must think that barr would take votes from them, because it was apparently the mccain
campaign that tried to have hi removed from the ballot.

according to barr's presidential web site (if you have 5 minutes to wait for it to load), he is on the ballot in
44 states.

Quote
Judge: Barr will be on Pa.'s presidential ballot

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania judge's ruling that keeps Libertarian Party presidential candidate Bob Barr on the ballot will force Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama to take him seriously in a key battleground state, a Barr campaign spokesman said Monday.

The major-party candidates "will have to compete for the votes of Pennsylvania citizens instead of taking them for granted," Russell Verney, Barr's campaign manager said in a statement.

The challenge to Barr, a former Republican congressman from Georgia who some GOP strategists fear might siphon votes from McCain, was filed by Harrisburg lawyer Victor Stabile, who also is chairman of the Cumberland County Republican Party.

Commonwealth Court Judge Johnny Butler rejected arguments that the party tricked voters by gathering signatures under another candidate's name and substituting Barr's name in August, three months after he was nominated at its national convention.

The Libertarians' intent "was to comply with the (state) election code, not to mislead Pennsylvania's voters," Butler wrote.

I don't think someone who would vote for Barr would vote for McCain anyway, but that is just me.

I think there are probably republicans out there that are so disgruntled with mccain that they would at least flirt with voting for barr . . . palin shores up mccain's bona fides pretty well, so he isn't as vulnerable as he was three weeks ago . . . .

Without his choice of Palin for his veep, I would be voting for Bob Barr in 6 weeks.

McCain needs to get down on his knees and thank God almighty himself for touching Palin's heart and convincing her to say "yes" when John called.  I'm convinced that she's the ONLY thing that saved his candidacy.

speaking of PA, the Dodgers are at the Pirates tonight, and I am watching the Pirates' satellite feed.  The BarackStar! is running HARD against mccain with TV commercials.  it's the one where some of mccain's campaign advisers were lobbyists for various industries, and it ends, "if this is who runs john mccain's campaign, who do you think will run his white house".

it comes on every commercial break.  EVERY SINGLE commercial break.

I guess this is where some of that $66 million is going.

I guess I am one of THEM too. I have been planning on voting for Bob Barr for months. I like Palin but McCain is still Bush lite and his open borders bullshit is a deal breaker for me. If Barr is on the ballot here in Ca he still has my vote. If not...then I think I will vote for myself. Or maybe for BEG.   :p

It's not as if McCain really had a chance in PA anyway.

rassmussen had them tied on sunday, but, yeah, historically speaking, PA is a tough nut to crack for a republican candidate for president.  having barr on the ballot probably won't help matters much.

Perhaps, but the "bitter angry white folk" comment is going to hand the state to McCain...at least that is my opinion.
