Democrats on Capitol Hill fear Obama fallout
« on: September 11, 2008, 09:05:49 PM »

it's pretty easy to panic democrats, but, wow.  what a difference a couple of months make, and what a difference
on li'l ol' VP nominee makes.

Quote
Democrats on Capitol Hill fear Obama fallout

Democratic jitters about the US presidential race have spread to Capitol Hill, where some members of Congress are worried that Barack Obama’s faltering campaign could hurt their chances of re-election.

Party leaders have been hoping to strengthen Democratic control of the House and Senate in November, but John McCain’s jump in the polls has stoked fears of a Republican resurgence.

A Democratic fundraiser for Congressional candidates said some planned to distance themselves from Mr Obama and not attack Mr McCain.

“If people are voting for McCain it could help Republicans all the way down the ticket, even in a year when the Democrats should be sweeping all before us,” said the fundraiser, a former Hillary Clinton supporter.

“There is a growing sense of doom among Democrats I have spoken to . . . People are going crazy, telling the campaign ‘you’ve got to do something’.”

That seemed way too much to hope for just a month ago.
Let nothing trouble you,
Let nothing frighten you.
All things are passing;
God never changes.
Patience attains all that it strives for.
He who has God lacks nothing:
God alone suffices.

I, for one, am not ashamed to admit that I thought we were doomed.  we were in the process of nominating a candidate for president that I was not especially wild about (and that it the politest way of putting it), and we were going to run him against the biggest thing to hit presidential electoral politics since (although I particularly hate this comparison, it is appropriate in this context) kennedy.

a certain amount of pessimism was certainly in order just a couple of months ago.

What a difference a Sarah makes!

She not only has locked up the Presidency, but now the downticket campaigns are being hit! :)

Nay you just bought into the "They are all the same" mantra. Obviously that's not true.  Course now you still have wiggle room in "Well OK they ran as conservatives will they govern as conservatives".  :cheersmate:

On Edit: I must confess to minor doubts but nothing to the point of conceding or throwing in the towel.

It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.

I just thought that we were looking at the irresistible, inexplicable force.  a tsunami.  something historic.  an election that they would be writing books about for years.  I couldn't figure out why he was riding the wave of popularity that he was, and to some extent still is, but it was certainly happening, and it couldn't be denied.  I knew things would change a bit, but I never thought this would happen.  and there are still 50-odd days left.  a lot could happen, but the trend is definitely encouraging.

I think it's funny that all of these metrosexual news guys are all "hunting" her.  this chick grew up on the frontier, where people were always armed because if you weren't, you could get freaking eaten by something.

she seems less than intimidated.

It would be great if she shot one of these bastards.  She could always say she thought it was a wolf. :)
