A theory
During the January 6th insurrection, Pence didn't trust the Secret Service agents and wouldn't get into a car they had ready for him. That's always been a curious minor detail. Instead, he stayed in the basement of the Capital and waited for the Electoral Count to resume.
We've heard that Chuck Grassley made noises suggesting that he would be presiding over the Electoral Count vote. This came out again in Eastman's disbarment trial.
Were the Secret Service going to whisk Pence away thus making Grassley President Pro Tempore of the Senate? Grassley could then reject the slates of electors from the swing states and thus implement Trump's last chance to hold onto the presidency. In other words, he would do what Pence was refusing to do.
It may be that we were closer to chaos than we knew.
What a shit show we got with Donald Trump.

But I think you nailed it. They were going to whisk Pence away to an unknown location and let Grassley do his thing.
It's interesting that ol' Chuck seems to have been forgotten. Hopefully Jack Smith has the goods.
Would like to see some things happen regarding the Willard Hotel shenanigans too.

3. who built the gallows?
4. who planted the pipe bombs and why did they not go boom? (i do believe it was ms taylor green who was too stupid to set the timer.)
5. which officers were disciplined and why have more trumpist police not been fired?
6 the treason caucus. why not more answers from cruz, hawley, jordan and the rest of the traitors.? why no prosecutions?
and plenty more.
i still believe that biden and garland would have let all of these people slide if trump had not forced their hand with his big mouth.

was that the individual who was tasked with setting the timers was afraid that the bombs were purposely set to spontaneously detonate or even accidentally detonate, and so left them, figuring that it'd work out one way or another.

The gallows doesn't matter because it wouldn't have worked.
My grandfather was a master carpenter, and I learned some of the basics of frame construction from him. That gallows was essentially a door frame, and done so badly that any weight put on that crossbar would have brought it down. Anyone put in the noose would have gotten some bruises or maybe some broken bones from a hard enough fall, but that's it. In a house, it would have not only come down, but taken down any load above it from a hard enough door slam.
Construction is a form of applied physics, and anyone who knows physics knows how poorly that gallows was built. There's a way to build a gallows that will make it strong. Whoever built that one made every single mistake possible to render it a failure as an execution device.
Also: Since it's obviously not functional, it's not difficult to argue that it was a political statement piece; ergo, not something to charge anyone for displaying. I've seen fake guillotines at liberal protests, and zero arrests for that. You'd be screaming--and rightfully so--if the feds had arrested liberals for what was a showpiece.
Same thing applies here.
DUmpass knows like physics and stuff... cuz Grandpa wasn't just a carpenter, he was a MASTER carpenter so he knows stuff. physics man, science stuff

With the failure of the coup attempt, all the puzzle pieces will be unboxed, and will fit together. But it’s a puzzle of enormous proportion.
The outpouring of facts, as opposed to the years-long cover-up managed by McConnell and Barr, and the barrage of lies from media, will condemn the conspirators in the public eye, and eventually, the courts.
The complete story will be as historical as the civil war.
