Things are so bad on the ground surrounding the 18-story Nancy Pelosi Federal Building on 7th and Mission streets in San Francisco that it could be renamed Nancy’s Crack Emporium. Maybe it already has.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported that the U.S. Health and Human Services Department advised its hundreds of employees to work from home because their workplace is surrounded by the “city’s most brazen open-air drug markets, where dozens of dealers and users congregate on a daily basis.” Since San Francisco doesn’t appear to be interested in improving, people are being told not to use the more-than-$141-million building taxpayers bankrolled back in 2002.

This videographer saw “49 people smoking and injecting fentanyl” outside the federal building this week. He wrote, “Our community is plagued with bodies, feces, tents, needles, crack pipes, etc. Women and Children are not safe. Fentanyl is showing up in playgrounds and schools.”

Oregon’s drug legalization “hasn’t gone as planned,” according to The Atlantic, and has been “an unmitigated disaster,” according to Oregon Clackamas County Commissioner Ben West — and does this former legalization proponent have a few things to say about that.

Measure 110 was voted into law in 2020, effectively legalizing even the hardest of drugs. 58.5% of Oregon voters checked “Yes” to “making personal non-commercial possession of a controlled substance no more than a Class E violation (max fine of $100 fine [sic]).” While technically only decriminalizing everything from shrooms to fentanyl, the lax penalties mean it isn’t worth a cop’s time to get involved — even against commercial possession; i.e., dealers.

The result, Ryan Mills reported for National Review on Tuesday, is what Clackamas County Commissioner Mark Shull described as a “wild, wild west of drug abuse.” Fellow commissioner West called it “an unmitigated disaster” because people are “dying on our streets,” according to Mills.

Drug-related crime didn't magically disappear when drugs were legalized? Who could foresee that?!

There's a small fatty gland that sits behind your sternum and is often said to be 'useless' in adulthood.

A recent retrospective study, however, suggests the thymus gland is not nearly as expendable as experts once thought.

US researchers found that those who get their thymus removed face an increased risk of death from any cause later in life.

They also face an increased risk of developing cancer.

While not definitive proof the thymus helps the body fight cancer, the research does demonstrate that further research is needed. Stepping back, it's funny how the several glands and organs once thought to be "vestigial" remnants from evolution have actually turned out to have useful/valuable functions. It's almost as if "settled science" is not, and our knowledge is limited.

Nearly two years after an ISIS-K suicide bomber attacked the Kabul Airport, killing 13 service members and injured many more, Pentagon officials insist the attack was “not preventable.”

But a new report alleges that U.S. military commanders were not only aware of the threat ahead of time, but they also missed two chances to eliminate the deadly terrorist network behind the attack.

First reported by the Daily Mail, the findings come from a new book, 'Kabul: The Untold Story of Biden's Fiasco and the American Warriors Who Fought to the End,' authored by Jerry Dunleavy and James Hasson, and published on August 15, the two-year anniversary of the Taliban takeover.

Dunleavy and Hasson obtained information through freedom of information requests, Pentagon documents and interviews with military personnel involved in the attack in order to analyze the bombing.

Talk about failures at all levels.

The fact that 18 million people think that force would be justified to restore Trump to the presidency is a bit scary, I admit.

The fact that nearly twice as many believe that force is justified in order to prevent his return to office is even more scary. That is 30 million people who, a bit more than a year out from an election that could have Trump reelected, inclined to take up arms in an insurrection.

The data comes from the widely respected Chicago Project on Security and Threats, which has been tracking political attitudes toward violence. One of the most striking things about the research is that all the MSM discussion about political violence is Right-wing threats, but vastly larger numbers of Left-wingers actually approve of using violence to achieve political ends.

Fake Meat Fails

It's hard to understand the reasoning behind fake meat.

Bear in mind that everyone is, and should be, free to eat what they like, with no interference from others. Think about it for a few moments, though. If you really don't like meat, that's fine, but why then would you go to the time and trouble of buying and eating something that tried to look and tastes like meat? If you think eating meat is immoral - it's not, but people may believe as they please - then the same question applies.

The real thing is available. Why go for the poor substitute?

Apparently, that thought is occurring to a lot of people just now.

Fake meat is an epic fail.
