WTF are search functions for if I have to sign in every time I use them.

(Betcha I don't have to sign in if I just want some actress's bra size.)

Besides, I didn't even use Google for the initial search

I use Duck Duck Go as my go-to search engine, but on my very occasional use of Google I've never been asked to sign in as a condition for using Google. There are a few sites I use where I can sign in with the user name & PW I've created or using my identity on another site (usually FB), but these are mostly for running event registrations or using the "free" part of MapMyRun.

So I did a Google search on the phrase: "the effects of mass on the accelleration due to gravity" (yeah, I misspelled acceleration). I did not get a Sign-in-to-Google pop-up.

If using Chrome, and you go into Private Mode, Google "suggests" you sign in. Not sure about other Browsers.
