At this point, nobody can deny that we are a society in decline.  In America today, you can buy a U.S. Senator for 10,000 dollars, test scores for 13-year-olds have dropped to alarmingly low levels, and the CDC is telling us that more people than ever are getting depressed.  Our streets are filled with crime, the ranks of the homeless are absolutely surging, and we are facing the worst drug crisis in the entire history of our nation.  Meanwhile, corruption is seemingly everywhere.  The guy in the White House and his son have made millions of dollars in an epic influence-peddling scheme that stretched over many years, and the mainstream media doesn’t seem to care.  Of course they know exactly what it is like to be bought and paid for, because the only reason the big news networks can survive is because of the millions of advertising dollars that the pharmaceutical industry continues to inject into their dying carcasses.

As Victor Davis Hanson has astutely observed, America was once experiencing a “gradual decline”, but now the fall of our nation “has accelerated at such an astonishing rate we can scarcely recognize our country”…

Twenty-first-century America was on a trajectory of gradual decline—until it began to implode.

Was the accelerant the COVID-19 pandemic and unhinged lockdowns? Or was the catalyst the woke revolution fueled by the 2020 summer of exempted rioting, looting, arson, and violence? Or was it perhaps the deranged fixation on removing Donald Trump from the presidency and destroying the rule of law in the process? Or all that and more?

Now with the election of Joe Biden, what had been a fast-tracked decline has accelerated at such an astonishing rate we can scarcely recognize our country.

I wish that what he is saying wasn’t true.

I think it's in direct correlation to the loss of coporal punishment in our schools and the loss of PE in our schools and the loss of recess in our schools.

Not to mention the loss of teaching what is usable (readin', writin', arithmetic) in favor of teaching our kids that boys can be girls and be more successful.

To expand on that, the baby boomers/hippie generation introduced a "participation trophy" mentality on formative children. My folks were baby boomers, and did not force that thought process on me or my brother. Life is a meritocracy, and you have to earn what you receive.

Unfortunately our system is rotten to the core. It starts in the schools and then goes to local governments and then on to state and then the federal government.

Then you add into the equation well funded activists and liberal courts that allow laws to be ignored or broken at will with no consequences.

The latest scam is the trans movement that has to be funded by some organization that wants us to believe that these freaks are a majority and normal citizens. The courts forcing women to have to deal with men in what used to be women’s only spaces is also a violation of their rights and a travesty.

Another problem is flooding the country with millions of migrants who have no stake in this country and are here for the handouts out current government is so freely handing out is changing our country for ever.
Until the majority stand up and fight this with equal fervor our country is lost.

Ultimately it boils down to the common denominator in all of the comments on this thread - PEOPLE.

People are inherently flawed and are susceptible to those proverbial seven deadly sins, the most egregious being ENVY, SLOTH, GREED, imho.

Historically, every single culture has declined, some into absolute ruin. Whether that decline was precipitated by war or pestilence or just plain neglect, the result has been consistent. We should not ignore history.

As long as PEOPLE are driving the boat, we will always have these flaws and these issues. And the resulting decline.

I would agree with Victor Davis Hanson that the current mal-administration has hastened America's decline far beyond any kind of normal curve. That's SharterJoe's legacy -- destruction of America far faster than even the normal criminals, slothful and greedy bureaucrats, and power-brokers could have imagined.

I think the biggest problem is listening to all the lies, misinformation and propaganda spewing from social media and the media. It’s all taken as the truth, lies told enough times becomes the truth

It's very odd. Polls show pretty much only democrats trust the media, and yet, people still seem to fall for media lies. It's like the media have figured out how to circumvent the viewer's sense of reason, and make them forget all the times the media lied or was disastrously wrong.

Unfortunately, weak, ineffectual Republican opposition to the left is also to blame for the current state of things.

As a random coincidence (not irony, and yes I know the difference between the two terms), I invoked the 7 deadly sins or cardinal sins for the trivia bonus round during a show earlier this month.

It was my backhanded way of making fun of PRIDE month, since that is one of such sins. To quote George Carlin: The planet is fine, the people are ****ed up.

As for Victor Davis Hanson, he is a brilliant and sage man. He occasionally appears on Fox News programs, which I sparingly watch while following my various sporting events. But will often put the channel on mute while listening to a baseball game and will see that he's appearing either on Fox or their wonderful business channel and immediately watch.  Bought a couple of his recent books and they are true gems.
