Per this, https://finance.yahoo.com/news/amazon-shuts-small-seattle-office-003957004.html , many employees at that location had been working remotely, because Covid. Amazon used several floors above a former Macy's store a few blocks from Pike's Place Market, a touristy area (I wonder if parking for the building was insufficient and workers had to walk a couple of blocks to get to the area). The move is supposed to be temporary, but unless the City of Seattle is impacted by tourists avoiding the area (or a City Clowncil member lives in the area), I doubt the crime situation will much improve.

I worked in downtown Seattle in 1999, just after the WTO insanity.  Seattle was REALLY upset as it was supposed to be an economic boom AND Seattle's then-sterling reputation as "the Emerald City" was badly tarnished.  I think they stopped caring about that by the 2010s.

I never felt the allure to visit the place.  Might get blown-up by a volcano.

Some additional context, https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10611413/Amazon-1-800-workers-downtown-Seattle-offices-rampant-crime.html :

Most recently, there has been a rash of violent crimes, specifically in the area of Third Avenue and Pine Street, that is pushing people away from the downtown Seattle area.

On February 27, a man was shot and killed at Third Avenue and Pine Street. A few days later, on Tuesday, police responded to Third Avenue and Union Street for a stabbing which led them to pursue a separate incident involving a carjacking at Third Avenue and Pine Street.

The same day, homeless career criminal Alexander Jay, 40, was allegedly caught on video repeatedly throwing the victim down the stairs at a Chinatown-International District  light rail station in an unprovoked attack.
...
But the final straw for many businesses to move their employees from the area or close their doors was the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old Michael Delbianco on March 2 in the 1500 block of Third Avenue, which is near where Amazon's office building is located.

Piroshky Piroshky bakery owner Olga Sagan, 38, made the tough decision to close her shop after the shooting. But said she constantly found the entrance blocked with drug users who refused to move - and she says the Seattle Police Department did nothing to help.
...
But just this month, additional businesses began shutting their doors, including, Qumulo, a cloud technology firm, and several McDonald's.

Today it was revealed that Amazon is closing its downtown Seattle office, with 1,800 employees, because of out-of-control crime. Among other recent victims of downtown crime was an Amazon engineer who was assaulted with a baseball bat near the office in late January.

Just one more added to the growing list of cities under long-time leftist control. Yet there are millions who seem to think more progressive lawmakers will fix things. I'm out of patience with those who deny the undeniable.  Conservatives saw this coming while Bezos is taking evasive action to protect his employees from the conditions his pet policies helped create.
