they are totally going after her, aren't they? . . . . and by the way, I also had some odd thoughts and peculiar urges during the clinton era.
I suspect that quite a few people did.

Members of 'Fringe' Alaskan Independence Party Say Palin Was a Member in 90s

The campaign of Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., likes to herald the independence of its new running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Officials of the Alaskan Independence Party say that Palin was once so independent, she was once a member of their party, which, since the 1970s, has been pushing for a legal vote for Alaskans to decide whether or not residents of the 49th state can secede from the United States.

And while McCain's motto -- as seen in a new TV ad -- is "Country First," the AIP's motto is the exact opposite -- "Alaska First -- Alaska Always."

Lynette Clark, the chairman of the AIP, tells ABC News that Palin and her husband Todd were members in 1994, even attending the 1994 statewide convention in Wasilla. Clark was AIP secretary at the time.

"We are a state's rights party," says Clark, a self-employed goldminer. The AIP has "a plank that challenges the legality of the Alaskan statehood vote as illegal and in violation of United Nations charter and international law."

She says it's not accurate to describe the party as secessionist -- they just want a vote, she says, adding that the members of the AIP hold different opinions on what Alaska should be.

Even if true so what?  It was 14 years ago.  She was 30 then.

I know my personal political views have changed in the last 14 years.

Late 20s - early 30's is the age when many folks go through personal political view changes.

I was a lot more liberal in my 20's than I am now.

"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of 'liberalism,' they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened." --Norman Thomas, 1944

She hasn't exactly kept that a secret! She also admitted to smoking pot when it was legal in Alaska. As I pointed out in another thread, Mr. Palin and eldest son are not even registered Republicans (they are undeclared). Which, I'm sure if you looked further has something to do with the way you are required to vote in Alaska. Doesn't matter really...

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

  • Make America Great Again. Deport some DUmmies.
Again, trying to make a mountain out of a molehill - the Alaskan Independence Party isnt seeking to secede, but for the citizens of Alaska to vote on statehood which apparently never happened. Its also a party that supports States Rights for pretty much everything.

I saw the opening comment video from Sarah for the 2008 convention. Its being heralded as proof she is a separatist which is a stretch to say the least. She comments on things such as States Rights which she agrees with, and mentions that participating in the political process is an important part of Democracy.

They are setting themselves up for trouble just like 'babygate'

She's got my vote!  :hyper:

If we keep moving further to the left, I'm for secession as well!

BTW Miskie, the name, and the explanation you gave, are quite contradictory.

well not entirely - secession is an option but I suspect at this point is one of the least likely.

The Alaskan Independence Party can be summed up in just two words:
ALASKA FIRST!

Until we as Alaskans receive our Ultimate Goal, the AIP will continue to strive to make Alaska a better place to live with less government interference in our everyday lives.

The Alaskan Independence Party's goal is the vote we were entitled to in 1958, one choice from among the following four alternatives:

    1) Remain a Territory.
    2) Become a separate and Independent Nation.
    3) Accept Commonwealth status.
    4) Become a State.

The call for this vote is in furtherance of the dream of the Alaskan Independence Party's founding father, Joe Vogler, which was for Alaskans to achieve independence under a minimal government, fully responsive to the people, promoting a peaceful and lawful means of resolving differences.

the MSM is coming through the back door on most of these "scandals".  "yes, the baby thing is irrelevant.  and the
trooper thing is probably all smoke.  and the AIP story is hopelessly over blown.  but they raise the question of how
well mccain vetted the candidates, which raises the question of his judgment . . . . ".   then they raise the dan
quayle argument, and begin blaring all of the details of every one of these incorrect, overblown, or irrelevant stories
all over the MSM.

the MSM will make the VEEP debate a minefield.  they will ask every trick question and foreign policy every gotcha in
the book.  "who is the speaker of the house of commons for the parliament of upper volta?"  WRONG!  upper volta doesn't
have a parliament.  and they will be on the lookout for a "potatoe moment".

^of course. meanwhile, the other guy screaming about "hope" and "change" and "being the ones we've been waiting for" picks Senator Plugs. An old school Washington Insider with a lackluster record. Can you imagine the outrage had McCain picked someone like Biden for the GOP ticket? They would be screaming, OMG!!! More old white guys!!!! OH NOES!!!

They were pro-secession in the 70's, but had no definite program on it when she joined in the mid-90's 20-25 years later, and that makes her a secessionist???  You know, the Democrats were all for segregation in the early 60's, that's from almost the same time period.....

From the Weekly Standard:

Palin Was Not a Member of the Alaskan Independence Party

Quote
In response to accusations that in the 1990s Sarah Palin was a member of the Alaskan Independence Party - a third party that seeks a vote on making Alaska a sovereign state - the McCain campaign has provided records showing that Palin has been a registered Republican since 1982.

Jake Tapper has updated his post on Palin and the AIP with this response from the McCain campaign:

Quote
(McCain spokesman Brian) Rogers says the McCain campaign provided ABC News with all the voter registration information that exists. Rogers says that Palin didn’t attend the AIP convention in 1994, "but she visited them when they had their convention in Wasilla in 2000 as a courtesy since she was mayor."

He would not comment as to why AIP officials are so convinced Palin was a member of their party. When asked if Palin ever identified herself as a member of the AIP, Rogers said, "No, she's a lifelong Republican."

Given that Pat Buchanan's claim that Palin was a "brigader" for him has been proven false, wouldn't it make sense to be a little skeptical of minor political figures trying to attach themselves to Gov. Palin's rising star?

So, seems we're in good shape. The Libs have run out of factual issues to talk about now they're concocting bullshit to further their cause. Typical.  ::)

S'pose Kookcinich is gonna come out next and swear he saw her running the show on that UFO he was on?

Maybe Kennedy will come out testifying that Sarah was the one that drove the car into the ddrink at Chappaquidick?

Or (kiss of death, this one) Bill Clinton could announce that "I DID  have sex with that woman, Ms. Palin..."
