Springsteen ends world tour at Harley celebration

By CARRIE ANTLFINGER, Associated Press Writer
Sun Aug 31, 9:36 AM ET
MILWAUKEE - Bruce Springsteen ended his world tour over the weekend, toned down but revved up. Springsteen played more than 30 songs over 3 1/2 hours Saturday night on Milwaukee's lakefront for Harley-Davidson's 105th anniversary celebration. He made few comments between songs. Only for a few moments before "Livin' in the Future" did the rocker — who often brings his liberal-leaning political comments to the stage — stray into politics.

Springsteen performed to a crowd not unlike the one that gave Republican presidential candidate John McCain a warm welcome Aug. 4 at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota. Many roared their motorcycles during McCain's speech.

Springsteen said "Livin' in the Future" was about what was happening now: cheese, Harley-Davidson motorcycles (tailoring it to his Wisconsin crowd), transfats, "500 channels of nothing on" and the Bill of Rights.

But he also mentioned wire tapping and rendition — the secret transport of terror suspects from one country to another. "Things that basically at the heart are un-American," he said. The crowd gave spattered groans but mostly stayed silent.

3. Whoa, that is just so f'ing sad! Now I wish he wouldn't have even come here. Sort of
"un-American" of him to tone it down for HD. Had to feel like a pretty anti-climatic end to a world tour for the Boss....wonder if he feels "cheapened"? I know I feel that way when I look around this once great, progressive state.

I was hoping that people would keep quiet about their distaste for celebrities in politics so the Obama campaign would go full-bore with every celebrity at every event, scores of trips to LA for parties at "private residences," trips abroad to celebrate with Clooney, and everything that went along with it. Alas, someone informed them that celebrities are viewed as attractive idiots. No wonder Obama and celebrities get along so well.

We have them here too.  The "$20,000 and 20 miles" crowd.  We call them RUBs. Rich Urban Bikers. Having the DUmpmonkeys lump me in with those RUB assholes pisses me off more than being called a "racist and a wife beater".

Smart move.  Don't have an HD, but have ridden bikes for about 30 years and I won't ride w/out a windshield.  When I was a teen, I got nailed by a rock a car threw that hit me in the windpipe and I just about passed out while riding.  Now, full face helmet w/ windshield.  It only takes one time.

Now you're making me feel bad. I like some of his stuff, too. I admit he gives off some strong Tinkerbelle vibes. But you gotta give credit to a guy who managed to get a rich cougar (Linda Evans, played J. R. Ewing's wife) to completely finance his rise to fame. Took a lot of hard work. His real fans claim his music can cure disease (really!) and clear your chakras. You are right, of course, about the very small number of Harleys parked outside the concert hall.

RNC don't need no stinking chakras!

Added: From my post above, it just occurred to me that John Eff'n (D-Hanoi) and Yanni have much in common, re their finances.

In one race I had a New Tire on a RM250 Suzuki and I roosted a buddy (Another pro Racer so bad that I turned back to see if he was alright ) he just pulled over and leaned forward over the bars holding his chest (Huge welts and Black & blue/ red spots under his jersey and on his neck) this was around the Time Racers shifted from outside  early  era Chest protectors to Shoulderpad/Chest Protector combos under the Jersey like football ...
