Had a chat with my post man this morning

He had absolutely no clue what was going on. He told me he "never votes." I told him he might want to consider doing so this time and to vote blue!

He seems like a very nice fellow who told me he will retire when he turns 66 next summer.

So, of course, I enlightened him. He was horrified and asked "where do you get that kind of information?" So I told him normal (non-Faux outlet names).

I kept repeating to "vote blue to save your pension."

He was particularly disturbed to learn that DeJoy is a logistics guy who has contracts with companies are direct competitors of the USPS. That stung.

Anyway, he said he has not seen any difference in the way things are being done. He said they cut overtime years ago in this area (Memphis suburb). He said, if you are out on a route and your time is up, they literally send out a contract worker to relieve you of your route. And said they pay overtime to contractors but not to employees.

He said management does not communicate with workers at all, so he knows nothing about any of what's going on.

I did ask him to talk to his coworkers to inform them to VOTE BLUE.

That's about all I got out of him, except maybe one blue vote!

46. If he's permanent full time It would be the National Association of Letter Carriers as his union.

The APWU represents mechanics, electronic technicians and clerks. Calling employees "Post man" doesn't quite fit since a lot are of other gender. Union membership is voluntary, but about 90% pay dues.

I thank every single person I see working for their work and engage them briefly in a discussion about voting blue.

Not one single person I have ever spoken to here has known that they can register to vote online with a drivers license or state ID #. Nor has anyone known that non-drivers will be (usually) given a free state ID for voting purposes.

The attitude is usually, "I don't bother." I keep telling they'd better, as elections have consequences!

And I always, always ask them to spread the work among friends and family members. (People usually do what they are told, it seems.)

Yes, I told him republicans are trying to privatize postal service and that chump was on the teeeeeveeeee saying he knows ruining the postal service will keep people from voting and he's doing it anyway and not funding it. (I repeated the negative republican stuff too, as this nice man isn't too bright.)

Oh, you would not even come close to fathoming the stupidity here. I never knew such people existed. So I try to enlighten them politically.

BTW, no mask on postman. He might not know about virus for all I know. (I spoke from a distance.)

Holy ****. Again- the government does not fund the Post Office!!!!

17. It's surreal here, sadly

I try to inspire hope in the folks I speak with - mostly youngish people of color working in grocery, as I don't go anywhere else due to tRump virus.

Sometimes, I see the light really go on in their heads and it's exciting, even though it's just a brief encounter.

One young Black girl working at a restaurant during the time Stacey Abrams was running for gov of GA was mildly excited, but when I mentioned Oprah was campaigning for Stacey, her eyes got about the size of dinner plates and she repeated her name, as if it were some sacred phrase.

I guess I'm just different. Given the choice between Oprah and the 1st AA woman running for governor on a major party ticket, the latter would be more exciting, but I've never been so much into celebrities.

I hope she went back to GA where she said she was registered and voted for Stacey and I hope she became interested in politics, but one never knows.

15. How could a guy work there his whole life and belong

to a union and know nothing. Nevermind we had guys in the steel mill that belonged to the Union and took all the benefits but hated the Union and voted Republican. I worked for AT&T for a while we had 30 something employees in our unit but there was one that wouldn't join the Union. This was in VA a right to work state. Most people can tell you who won the World series in 1960 and name all the players but can't tell you who their Senator is.

from the p.o. and most of the people he worked with were republicans. I don’t get it. They vote against their own interests.

Religious people have always frightened me for exactly this reason. Those are the same people I see not wearing masks. Not because "freedumb", but because "gawd".

You should, without any doubt, be sure to tell the people that you are instructing how to vote that they should always vote 'blue' so that a person just exactly like you (DUer SheltieLover) will be elected. Then you should explain to them some of the things that you and your fellow DUers believe. Such as...
1) There are multiple genders and you can pick the one that you choose to be.
2) If an individual with male genitalia chooses to be a female he should be able to go into the little girls' restroom or showers.
3) Likewise, if an individual with female genitalia chooses to be a male she should be able to go into the little boys' restroom or showers.
4) That companies should be taxed into oblivion.
5) That illegals should be given free education, welfare, and all the other privileges available to some actual citizens.
6) That evil conservatives want voter ID laws to prevent blacks from voting because voter fraud NEVER happens.
7) After you tell them number 6 be sure to immediately follow with how the "idiots" W and Trump both outsmarted the most smartest people in the universe and stole their elections.
8) Finally be sure to point out how you guys are the party of compassion and tolerance and will burn down the houses and/or businesses belonging to members of the other parties and sometimes even of your own party members to prove it.

His pension is safe because republicans forced the USPS and the unions to fund his pension, unlike most liberal states that are in massive debt because of public sector union pensions being unfunded or underfunded.

this is correct. The only reason the P.O. is running in the red to the tune of several billion dollars is they are forced to pay into the retirement account- funding it until 2047, every year, costing about 5 to 6 billion dollars.
