What is happening is as plain as the nose on our collective faces. Trump voters were always racist, and Trump set them free. We are witness to this daily.

Trump realised early on that the majority of his supporters, disciples and devotees are racist, be it overt, covert or sub-conscious dogmatism, and that they had been faithfully anticipating the day when a populist prejudiced leader was successfully able to challenge the ‘politically correct’ status quo and seize power from the relative centre ground. They had been waiting for a Trump to come along and not only tell them it's acceptable to give in to their bigotry and just be the repugnant people that they are and have always yearned to be, but to actively encourage them to do so. He has fostered and sanctioned a malign rage, in his base, against anyone who is not just like them – brown and black people, foreigners and pretty much every other minority grouping is at risk from his supporter’s intemperate violence of word and deed. And they are so, so thankful that he has given then this permission to be the hate filled nasty ****ers that they really are, that they fanatically idolise him. They have all worked together, turning him into the commander of an extremist fundamentalist cult movement, and he is both loving it and capitalising on it. It is, after all, what all corrupt and unscrupulous fascists do.

He has given permission to a predominately uneducated, resentful, spiteful and increasingly nativist base that 'the other' is to blame for all their economic and social anxieties, even while, it is evident to anyone with a brain, that this is a distraction tactic, allowing Trump and his ilk to steal everything his cultists own, to line the pockets of himself, his family and his toadies. However, they will never turn on him, as he gives them approval and endorses them gleefully giving into their despicable predispositions. That is why these fools and deluded muckrakers shun any construct of realism (i.e., the real world and facts) that Trump has not directly concocted and sanctioned for them. And, Trump knows it and plays on it.

Duplicity, abhorring one co-hort or another and falsehoods, are embedded in and is the republican ethos in its entirety. Vilifying and denigrating ‘the other’ are so necessary to the republican identity these days that they wilfully choose to ignore truth, reality, data, and history. This is self-evident, demonstrable and incontestable.

Trump knows that the people who sustain him and his ideology are too idiotic and detestable to not vote against their own best interests. They are racists. Hatred of black and brown people is who they are to the core of their being. They will follow a leader over the edge of a cliff, like a bunch of lemmings, as long as the person they're following continues to give them permission to be the illiberal, bigoted, parochial, petty and narrow-minded shower that they have always been.
