Yes, We Need Protests if Mueller is Fired...And We Need to Prepare for an Extended General Strike
Good evening,

I've posted a scant 300+ times in 13 years as a DU member, and am doing so tonight worried to death (like most of you) about the future of our democracy. While unlikely, it is entirely plausible that tRump will seek to shut down Mueller and the investigation. We need to hope that doesn't happen, but be prepared just in case it does.

By now most of us know about MoveOn's NOBODY IS ABOVE THE LAW—MUELLER FIRING RAPID RESPONSE, 400 rallies scheduled to take place immediately after such an event. If you don't know about this please visit these pages:

[link:https://act.moveon.org/event/mueller-firing-rapid-response/search/|][link:https://www.democraticunderground.com/10029992780|]
[link:https://upload.democraticunderground.com/10029994840|]

The Rapid Response must, however, be just the beginning if we are truly going to successfully protest our way out of Authoritarianism. It's going to take a General Strike, lasting days if not weeks. It's going to mean risking our jobs and livelihood...for our FREEDOM. And it means convincing our employers in the private sector, government, and other organizations that a General Strike is right, is just, and will save the country.

In researching General Strikes and mixed rates of success (and failure), I came across this important concept, articulated in an article nearly a year ago about achieving success in a General Strike against tRump:
"For a general strike to be truly successful you have to get some of the employers join in on or make allowances for the protest."
[link:https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/aej7qb/could-a-general-strike-against-trump-actually-work|]

Tomorrow, I intend to reach out to leaders in my company to obtain tacit if not overt approval NOW so we are prepared for a long haul General Strike. Beginning with the Rapid Response Protests, but growing day by day, and hurting the economy enough for corporate leaders to force enough republicans to the impeachment table. It's going to take time, and an unwavering commitment by all of us to our country and democracy.

We can't afford to wait until Mueller and his team are actually bulldozed. We need to prepare now. Please join me and reach out to the leaders of your companies & organizations. Get their commitment that everyone keeps their job, and invite them to join the Protest. If you are one of those leaders, well, you know what to do.
Activist newb is ready to lead the charge!!!!

Then, reality strikes:

... don't know and don't care what's going on. I seriously doubt if there would be any kind of "general strike" no matter what happens. Most people just don't give a shit.

6. Never happen. Speaking for myself I just got

a good job, making enough to support my family and steadily paying off student loans. I know I’m in the majority — people working to improve their lives and their families’ lives. Zero chance we’re going to risk losing that achievement to carry out some ridiculous fantasy of a general strike. Forget it.

I trust people like Rep. Schiff and others to do their jobs now and especially once Democrats are back in the majority.

Don't volunteer me to do so.

Hmmmm . . . DUmmie amassed debt, probably during Snarky McDouchebag's term, gets a good job during Trump's term.

You're welcome, Dummie.

7. I went to a show this evening...

The room was full. People were lined up for night clubs and restaurants. People were busy buying Christmas presents.

My point is that the population isn't hovering over their laptop or phone reading every political tweet and waiting for some triggering event to rally. They're not as politically engaged as you are. And while most of them don't like Trump (according to polling), they're not angry ENOUGH to fill the streets in protest, much less engage in a "to the barricades" general strike. This isn't Europe; we don't have that kind of history here.

Happy people, enjoying life, spending $$$. Sounds like there is a lot of optimism out there.

I wonder what kind of reaction the idiot is going to get when he approaches his company "leaders" about not doing his job for an extended period of time? When he loses his job for absenteeism, will that be Trump's fault?

The biggest problem with a general strike is for it to be effective, those striking need to be employed. This is of course an issue with the primitives. :stoner:

Would that be General Strike 452.0 or 453.0? I've lost count.

Meanwhile, NORMAL Americans will continue earning $$ by going to their jobs and will be enjoying more of it due to the tax cuts.
Help keep America beautiful...deface a liberal.

The Democrat and Republican parties are simply the left and right wings of the same bird of prey.

The road to freedom is paved with dead liberals.

Hopefully that will never happen.

Having a bunch of you going out on a general strike and creating chaos will be an excellent excuse for us to "thin the herd"  as a solution.

These tax cuts absolutely terrify them. They know it’s going to let people keep more of their own money and it will be popular IMMEDIATELY because people will see a larger paycheck, immediately.

Trump has beat them again. Once this is realized 2018 is all but over at the polls.

not concentrating on the debt. From what I see the vast majority will get a tax cut next year. They ran on a half truth saying it was a tax increase. Next fall after people see they are getting a few xtra bucks and if the economy is still good I don't see Democrats gaining much if anything.

13. We don't "protest our way out of Authoritarianism"...we elect Democrats to protect our Democracy

When I think of democracy, the first thing that comes to mind is an increasingly expansive Federal gov’t that wants to “protect” us by controlling every aspect of our lives, like the Democrats want.

Yes, We Need Protests if Mueller is Fired...And We Need to Prepare for an Extended General Strike

My thinkin' is >> in a month or two, you are going to be up-in-arms and protesting because Mueller HASN'T been fired.

Don't you DUmbasses get it?  All the King's horses and all the King's men couldn't stop Trump from succeeding again.

The coordinated and choreographed effort by the Obama administration to get that Clinton b*tch elected FAILED MISERABLY (just like everything else Obama touched).  Now, there is nothing to do but sit back and watch the criminal enterprise - known as the Democrat Party - dissolve into a pile of subpoenas, contempt charges, and indictments.

It is going to be delicious entertainment.  It will all be brought to you by the very special counsel headed by the most valuable Hon. Mueller, who will have no other choice.
