7. Having trouble establishing my identity once I'm back

My passport is almost worthless as an ID.

My old teacher’s credit union, Said they would take me back but need a Colorado ID.

To get an ID from the DMV I need a bank statement, electric bill  or other proof of residency .

My friend is willing to back date a lease to me on where I’m staying and that can be used but I need one more proof.  They might accept an official change of address reply from the post office which I turned in today.

Its frustrating, can’t even sign up for social security on line it rejects my application, so I’ll have to go down there next week..I tried three times but it was rejected and now I have a 48 hour waiting period before I can try again.

Its hard to get back on the grid after living off the grid for so long.  I wonder how homeless people do it?  I did contact both the homeless advocacy group and legal aide but haven’t heard a reply So right now I can’t collect my social security, nor inheritance.

In other news, the big guy from Bellevue is out of the hospital now.

Unless there's something big he's not saying, this is BS. When it comes to doing an I-9 for a job (to prove one is legally allowed to have a job) a valid passport is golden. If you don't have that you need two forms of alternate ID.

So, friend is willing to commit fraud. I wonder whether the date(s) on that change of address will expose the fraud.

Looks like some relevant things have been omitted here. Dude should have set up camp in the proper office so a real person could work with him. Since he didn't, I wonder if there's a significant reason (other than logistics) he did not.

So right now I can’t collect my ... inheritance.

Unless there's something defective about his passport, I think this is incorrect. It proves who he is, and being who he is he's entitled to his inheritance.

Am I way off base in any of this? I'm wondering whether he might have become a stateless person or something drastic like that.

I kind of wondered about that.  Over the years for various reasons--none of them especially significant--I've offered a valid passport of mine for identification, and it seemed to me the passport was accepted with more credibility than even my driver's license or certified copy of my certificate of birth.

I suspect you're right; a valid passport is golden.

Go back to Denmark and keep mooching off of them. You haven't contributed anything here to deserve freebies. :loser:

I first got a passport in 1999 and have used it for I-9 ID for the 4 jobs I've had since then. I've had more experience with that use of a passport than I wish I had. Now, if his passport is expired ...

However much of the full tale of his woes itchy is telling, it all comes of his essentially making himself de facto stateless and living for I don't remember how many years as an illegal alien in Denmark. Now that he has an inheritance (money and assets his parents earned) here he has come back for that and to live off US government bennies to which he has not been a contributor for as many years as he was an illegal alien in Denmark. He thinks the moochings here will be better than the moochings in Denmark. I really have less than zero sympathy for him.

I don't mean to make the itching carpenter primitive's story even more convoluted, but while I don't remember the circumstances, an expired passport of mine was accepted as valid identification.

I wish to God I could remember for what reasons, but I can't.

One time, I even used a passport 25 years old and long expired for something, but I forget for what.  No malicious reason; it just happened to be the identification handy at the time.

(later) The itching carpenter primitive insists his passport is "almost worthless" for identification.

One might suspect something's fishy about the passport then, but probably not.

I think he's angling for sympathy as a prelude for a fund-raiser.

Pre-9/11 identification requirements for many things, especially border-crossings, were much looser.  They were much more interested in you being YOU than the formalities of the documents to prove that.  I used a Xerox copy of a birth certificate one time to cross back into US from Mexico.

Since the Real ID Act (actually, since 9/11) that is impossible.  And, as happens with many things, the new tougher requirements have found their way into virtually every aspect of life.

I don't think the problem really exists.

I think the itching carpenter primitive made up this problem, because he's planning to launch a fund-raiser and wants to display a whole litany of woes so as to draw in some bucks.

Whatever his/its reasons, frank, we need to turn our resources towards finding out more about him/it and report him/it to the proper authorities.  He's just admitted he/it has a friend committing a crime on his/its behalf.

Well, I'm sure that given time and chance, the truth will come to light.

That's something the primitives don't understand; the truth always outs.

I'm most intrigued as to why the itching carpenter primitive felt compelled to stay away from the United States for so long.  It's probably not a noble reason.

I think the answer is probably almost exclusively related to the freebies in Denmark being better than in the US. He had to cough up money to get moved back here too.

It's been pretty dull on Manny's message board the past few days.

However, this, unrelated to this thread, might be of interest:

"My passport is almost worthless as an ID."
I have to call BS on that. A valid passport is considered one of the most effective, trustworthy forms of ID a person can get.
