I never did get that meme in the way Dems have re-ordained it to mean.

I don't even think Vanity was the original.  It probably came from Tony Jo White's universe.  Or McKinley Morganfield's (Muddy Waters').

The left are still upset because Hillary called Trump supporters "deplorable" among other things, and his supporters wore deplorable as a badge of honor and ran with it.

Trump called Hillary a "nasty woman", so her supporters tried to do the same thing. However, it doesn't work that way when it's a true label.
