"Why are you here?" he asked. Naturally I was caught off guard so I replied "uhmm I'm here shopping".

"No why are you here" he exclaimed. "Why are YOU here in THIS country?"

At first I wasn't sure if I had heard correctly. My mind's gears turned as I was trying to figure out what to say. My whole life my parents had told me to always avoid confrontation. And yet here this guy was yelling at me about what I was doing in my own country.

I tried to walk away and yet he kept shouting. Finally I snapped and yelled back "this is my country. I was born here you fool".
"No you're the fool" he retorted back. "Go back to your country".

Tears began streaming down my face as I walked away. My whole life we had been told work hard, respect others, and no one will bother you. And yet in this new age of Trump people like me are targets. As a non-white I guess I don't have the right to be an American in their eyes. It doesn't matter that I'm an educated person from an educated immigrant family. It doesn't matter that my parents came here and worked their asses off and then earned PhDs. All that matters to these people is our skin color.

Worst part of all was that there were other people standing around and yet not one of them stood up for me. They gave cursory glances and some had sympathetic faces, yet not a single person stepped up to support me.

All I was trying to do yesterday morning was buy my father a gift for Father's Day at our local mall. Little did I know that I would have my identity questioned. But I guess in the age of Trump this will be the new norm. 

Sure is easy to make these pussies cry.  Wonder if he had a pink 'hat' on?

it's hard to imagine a lot of people will step into a confrontation like that. Myself included. I'd like to think I would step in, but that background wariness is in the minds of many.


Yes, because shootings are absolutely RAMPANT now that Trump is president.

 I read an article in the Latin Times about there being something like 90000 Canadians in the US without permission! It was amusing that only the Latin Times wanted to publish that information! Fox News won't.

This is taking things off topic, but what you posted above is a pet peeve of mine they do over at DU.  The 'welfare collection day job' comment.

It burns me up every time I see them talk about what they earn in welfare/SSDI/Etc.

They have no clue what that word means, evidently.

Yesterday I was at Target and a man who appeared to be from Africa was holding his son. "Angola" he answered. "So I am guessing that you were paroled into the US as a refugee?

"Yes" he said. I described the final steps of processing, the plastic bag and the logo and he answered "Yes IOM gave that to me".

I told him that I spent a decade working for IOM and he called his whole family from through out the store and the men hugged me and the women gave me two handed handshakes. We talked about the refugee camp. He has two jobs now and wants to finish college so he can go into law enforcement. He loves the country.

My wife was sitting in the subway shop next to us pointing to her watch. We were late for an appointment. I felt human again.

I wish I was there so I could have stepped in on your behalf.

I have a suggestion, next time you are at the Mall look out for some folks who appear to be immigrants or refugees an engage them and tell them how happy you are they are here. I cannot express the feeling I have gotten over and over again when they realize that, for the first time, the random stranger is not there to accuse but to support. It will take away all of the sting that you felt on the day you have written so eloquently about.



I love when they have to 'out do' each other.  LOL

So I was at the mall. I never go there because everything is so white-centric and corporate.  I had to get a gift for my baby father and the holistic hand made bat guano soap was lost in transit, thanks FEDEX. I knew they should have shipped by USPS. Anyhoo, there was a great rainbow of colors of people with happy smiles and a few even had on a "I'm with her" shirt. It wasn't as bad as I expected. Then some old white guy yelling at clouds sees me. I was dressed in my native country's bright colors. He immeadiatly starts yelling at me "Why are you here?" he asked. Naturally I was caught off guard so I replied "uhmm I'm here shopping". "No why are you here" he exclaimed. "Why are YOU here in THIS country?"

Well everybody there started to come toward us with shocked looking faces. A transgendered man came out of the woman's bathroom almost crying. I said to this ignorant fat white slob "This is my country. I'm super edumacated and my 8 children will make this country even better!" Well he dropped his jaw than brought it back and turned around and walked away as fast as he could. The entire group of beautiful diverse people cheered me and patted me on the back for being such a strong woman of color.

On the way out of the door the old white racist was arrested when a cop jumped out of the bushes at the mall entry. The crowd cheered even louder! I guess even in tRump's racist and horrible Merica we can have one good day.  Stay woke!
