California is full of liberals who are constantly whining about climate change and the environment. It turns out they should probably focus on their own state before lecturing the rest of the country.

More than half of the most polluted cities in the country are in California.

USA Today reports:

California again leads list with 6 of the top 10 most polluted U.S. cities

California’s smoggy reputation appears to be deserved: Six of the USA’s 10 cities with the worst air pollution are in the Golden State, according to a new report.

Bakersfield, Calif., again holds the dubious distinction of having the USA’s most days of highly polluted air, based on data from 2013-2015, the American Lung Association’s annual “State of the Air” report released Wednesday found.

In addition to the worst spikes of short-term pollution — led by Bakersfield — the report also lists the cities with the worst overall year-round pollution — led by Visala/Hanford, Calif.— and the worst ozone pollution, led by the Los Angeles/Long Beach area.

California’s soaring population and topography allow air pollution to overcome the state’s strict environmental laws, said Paul Billings of the American Lung Association. The boom in people brings with it an increase in cars and trucks on the roads, and many of those people live in valley and basins, right where pollution tends to settle.

The next time some smug liberal celebrity from Hollywood starts complaining about the environment on Twitter, share this story with them.

Ira Einhorn, if he were not serving a mandatory life term without the possibility of parole, would likely be rioting in Berkeley ..

REMINDER: Founder Of Earth Day Murdered And Then Composted His Girlfriend

Via NBC News:

Ira Einhorn was on stage hosting the first Earth Day event at the Fairmount Park in Philadelphia on April 22, 1970. Seven years later, police raided his closet and found the “composted” body of his ex-girlfriend inside a trunk.

A self-proclaimed environmental activist, Einhorn made a name for himself among ecological groups during the 1960s and ’70s by taking on the role of a tie-dye-wearing ecological guru and Philadelphia’s head hippie. With his long beard and gap-toothed smile, Einhorn — who nicknamed himself “Unicorn” because his German-Jewish last name translates to “one horn” —advocated flower power, peace and free love to his fellow students at the University of Pennsylvania. He also claimed to have helped found Earth Day.

But the charismatic spokesman who and preached against the Vietnam War — and any violence — had a secret dark side. When his girlfriend of five years, Helen “Holly” Maddux, moved to New York and broke up with him, Einhorn threatened that he would throw her left-behind personal belongings onto the street if she didn’t come back to pick them up.

On Earth Day, Don’t be Fooled: Apple Has Been Horrible to the Environment

However, the facts around Apple’s impact on the environment are hardly something the tech giant wants highlighted ahead of Earth Day.

As Macworld wrote earlier this year, “For a company founded by a group of long-haired Californian hippies, it’s taken Apple a while to come to terms with its responsibilities to the Earth.”

For instance, in 2013, Apple polluted a river in China “so badly that it turned milk-white.” That same year, Apple was accused of “trashing tropical forests and coral reefs in Indonesia due to the use of tin in the iPhone and iPad.”

In 2011, Greenpeace released a report that named Apple, the “least green” tech company. According to The Guardian:

“The report estimated dependence on coal for Apple’s data centers at 54.5%, followed by Facebook at 53.2%, IBM at 51.6%, HP at 49.4%, and Twitter at 42.5%.”

While Apple has made improvements since that 2011 Greenpeace report, in 2016 the company agreed to pay a $450,000 settlement to the California Environmental Protection Agency for claims that the company mishandled electronic waste.

Apple’s $850 million solar farm also received considerable backlash from environmental groups in 2015, because it threatened some “rare, endangered and sensitive species,” including the golden eagle.

Then there’s the latest controversy surrounding Apple’s new headquarters in Cupertino, California, that will have enough space to park 11,000 cars. According to reports, about 3.5 million square feet of Apple’s new campus is dedicated specifically to parking. Eleven thousand cars is hardly the green image Apple wants to present.

So while Apple attempts to paint itself as an environmental champion ahead of Earth Day, their past and current controversies around environmental issues paint a very different picture.
