When I woke up this morning, I remembered this thread from five years ago, and that the sparkling old dude had never apologized for his jumping to conclusions.

I remembered it mainly because, as I indicated in my second comment on it, the post by Fat Che's Little Brother summed up perfectly just what a screwed up concept of "Justice" the far- left has, and how they should have as little control as possible over our justice system, if any at all.

So.....I'm reading about the sparkling old dude in a culinary magazine--the sparkling old dude after all is not without some accomplishment, mostly because of his first wife, whom he so casually cast aside for his current much-younger trophy wife--and there's an article in it suggesting to restauranteurs that to save on water bills, they install waterless urinals in their establishments.

Well, I ran his family name in the 2017 results page, and found he finished the 5K in 4522nd place out of 4530 (if his name is Michael), with a chip time of 1:02:27.3, 30th (and last) in the Male 65-69 Age Group. I would have been in the next younger age group, and mostly walking would have finished a little under 45 minutes (I'm not fast, and won't  , but STC was either messing around, has a physical limitation, or is pretty out of shape).

I assume Sparkler was there for the St. Patrick's Day festivities and/or was with family and/or friends. Unless it's something like the Froyo Run I don't pay a lot of attention to the commercial sponsors. I'm not sure if I'd care if Ben & Jerry's or Progressive Insurance were a sponsor. OTOH, politics isn't my whole life, so I might not have the same mindset Sparkler does.

Yeah, that's the old sourass in the Adidas cap.

And to think, this is the guy who years ago tossed aside his first wife because she was getting matronly of build, and some facial hairs, as do most women of Italianate derivation.  The woman who helped him rise in a pretty good career, the woman who bore and raised his children, the woman who loved him, and he tossed her aside for the mean vicious harridan he has now.

In case one doesn't know, the sparkling old dude in profile looks nothing more than like an ancient Greek minotaur; I've never ascribed that sort of skull to the Italianate race, but apparently it does happen once in a while.

I have no idea who the three chicks are; none of them is his much-younger trophy wife however; she has facial wrinkles and they don't.

I wouldn't be too harsh on his finish of 4522 out of 4530; he's an old man, and trying something many males his age don't bother trying.  In fact, I'd congratulate him for the effort; it's a Hell of lot better than much-younger franksolich could do at the moment, due to a heart attack two years ago that's kept me down.  The sparkling old dude also had a heart attack, but that was a long time ago now, and besides, he never smoked cigarettes as heavily as franksolich did.

Thus is life.  One excels in some things, flunks in other things.

The boy who was shot, if this is the same story, was a down syndrome child.  This victim was not anyone's tormentor.

Seriously? IMHO,anyone who bullies or attacks a child with Downs should be prosecuted under "special circumstances" laws. This means the death penalty if the child was murdered,and a felony change in place of a misdemeanor charge if he or she was "just" physically attacked.

I wasn't trying to be harsh. My last 5K time was 59:56, 4th in my age group, and 448th out of 485. I was keeping pace with my wife, who was checking out her recovery from a fibula fracture 9 months earlier. With a vacation that included some walking around in England, she wanted to be sure she could do 3+ miles at an easy pace. The bottom line in such races is that we are where we are - every runner - and except for a very few really fast runners, our "competition" is ourselves. And as you said, Sparkles did a whole lot better than the many people who won't or can't.

The race results list a city as Virginia for him. I assume that obit is ~13 1/2 years old. I'm an age group younger than STC. Today I might be able to do a flat 5K in about 50 minutes, and probably pay for it the following day with a gout attack. So I get that STC may have limitations beyond not walking several miles a day for exercise. My current issues have me 3/4 POed half the time.

Stinky just turned 70.

The age of the primitives has to be one of the bigger surprises and disappointments that I've noted over time of observation. If they were in their early to mid-20's, maybe even early 30's, you could forgive some of the things they say and believe either because they're just young and haven't experienced life or possibly they haven't been taught better, that their thought process just hasn't reached the point where they can fully understand. But then you come to learn many of them are in their 60's and 70's, and that they never matured in thought beyond their youth, and it's confounding. You wonder what went wrong.

Part of what allows society's to continue is that as a particular generation gains age they also gain wisdom, and then they pass that on to the next generation who may not accept it at first, as youth can be an idealist time, but sooner or later they come around and realize their parents weren't as stupid as they thought they were; that, in fact, they were right about a whole lot of things. But now we've got a large amount of the Gen X generation who never grew up, as evidenced by observing the primitives. Sadly, their kids will look to them and believe they are what being mature is all about, not knowing they're really observing a group of 60 and 70 year olds who are mentally still children.

I'm not sure who is to blame; the parents who somehow didn't teach their kids how to eventually grow up, or the kids themselves for refusing to grow up. Probably a combination of both. But it doesn't bode well for the country unless, by some miracle, the majority of a whole generation look back and see that their parents failed to become mature adults, and they're determined to reverse that trend for the sake of their own children and beyond.

Otherwise, the country becomes full of modern-day liberals, and then that's all she wrote. Into the dust-bin of history it goes.

Sparkles, like me, is a Baby-Boomer. Many of my generation were coddled by parents who wanted their kids not to have it as rough as they did during the Great Depression. Similarly, many of my generation rejected their parents' and older people's wisdom: some grew out of that; some never did. Personally, I did not reject and reel against my wiser parents. Many on DU, OTOH, did AND never really grew out of it.

Given the substance of their comments, one assumes these are teenagers and others in their early 20s who really haven't been out in the world yet.

And then the astonishment when one finds out that, really, more than half the primitives are over the age of 50. 

They're just old balding potbellied once-been hippies who still want to be Peter Pan, never growing up.

The Grim Reaper isn't reaping hard enough, damn it.
