Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton believes Republicans are moving too quickly on healthcare reform and the process is reminding him a lot of what was done in order to pass the Affordable Care Act that Republicans opposed.

Cotton said on MSNBC Wednesday it's unreasonable for House Republican leadership to introduce the bill on Monday and then try to pass it through committee on Wednesday because not enough people know what's in the bill yet. It might be smaller, but the technical language and importance of the bill merit a more contemplative process, Cotton said.

"We're moving a bit too quickly on healthcare reform," he said. "This is a big issue. This is not like the latest spending bill … we're going to live with healthcare reform forever."

He added, "I don't think we need to introduce legislation on Monday and have one chance to amend it on Wednesday. That's what we did with Obamacare."

Cotton said he's not sure if he's for or against the bill right now because he hasn't had enough time to digest the provisions in the legislation. He's in favor of the changes to Medicaid reform, but at this point everything is moving a bit fast for him.

"it's simply too soon to say," Cotton said. "We've only had this bill in public for 36 hours and they're trying to rush it."

Tom Cotton on replacing ObamaCare: “I would much sooner get health-care reform right than get it fast”

“This is a big issue. This is not like the latest spending bill that gets released on a Monday night, [passed] on Wednesday and everybody goes home for Christmas, and we live with it for nine months,” he said.

“We’re going to live with health care reform that we pass forever, or until it’s changed in the far distant future,” he said.

“So I don’t think we need to introduce legislation on Monday and have one chance to amend it on Wednesday,” he said. “I would much sooner get health care reform right than get it fast.

Looks like more lost "R" seats in 2018 if this does not get done.

60% of Governors now claim Obamacare is already broke in their states, and they cannot sustain the cost of it with insurers bailing out of Obamacare all across the country.

This will likely land squarely in the lap of the GOP, as will the blame for it failing.  The Dims will play it like their old welfare fiddle.

I see the GOP getting eaten alive in 2016 if they don't get a handle on this post haste.

They are screwing the pooch in 9's.

I agree. Obamacare was thrown together to keep a promise. Can we please not make the same mistake? Something like this needs prototyping and phase ins. It should be handled like a commercial project rather than a government program. There is methodology in commercial projects that seems absent in government endeavors. We must apply those to healthcare if we are to create a plan that's equitable and sustainable.

Slow down and get there faster.
