I question of proprieties.
And Priorities.. And Agenda.
Please explain to me, how a pre-pubescent child is to be trusted with the choice of life altering gender issues. Their feelings and thoughts given full value, and yet a 13 year old can not make decisions in regards to sex..
Well except in the case of abortion, then some want them to be able to make this decision without parental consent, or even against the wished of the parent.
Are they immature and impressionable victims, or are they empowered and fully self aware and functioning entities?
They're not free agents; they're being used by other people, and hence it's heinous, hideous, to let them make that "choice," which is not an informed choice.
Having been born deaf and all that, I've been aware from a very young age that there were people bigger and smarter than me walking around, seeking to exploit my vulnerabilities for gratification of their own egos.
People who think they have no control over their own lives seek then to control other people.
I was fortunate in having parents whose own egos were the
last thing they used in raising me; it was all concern for me, not for themselves. But, there were other people around.....
Things happened, but fortunately nothing catastrophic or traumatic; I managed to grow up happy and content and carefree and mellow and laid-back.

3. They aren't and shouldn't.
Immature and impressionable.

4. Good question
For instance, it's vitally important that kids get all the pizza they want in their school lunch (take that Michelle Obama!) AND equally important that grown-ups only spend their food stamps on the kind of nutritious staples that are unavailable in many neighborhoods.
Aha.
Talk about old times. It's great.
^^^this is the rabbi, from long-ago Days of Yore.
Good to see you, rabbi.
