Trump Signs Executive Orders After Taking Office
« on: January 20, 2017, 03:34:46 PM »
President Donald Trump signed several executive orders a short time after he was sworn in Friday.

One of them authorized retired Gen. James Mattis to serve as secretary of defense, should his nomination be confirmed. Mattis has only been out of the military for three years, short of the required seven years for someone to serve in the civilian position. Trump's order overwrites that rule.

Trump also signed orders that officially nominated his Cabinet picks, none of which have been confirmed by Congress.

And he signed an order that declares a National Day of Patriotism, although it was unclear which day on the calendar that will be.

And my left-leaning Facebook friends are already on the case, telling us how this should "fill you with dread".

Only they would dread that formidable word, patriotism.
