They see Putin as a strong and patriotic leader, and they feel he is a stark contrast to the "weak" leadership of President Obama. Thirty years ago, praising Russia would have been inconceivable; these days, praising Russia is part of "making America great again" for Republicans, because they think Putin made Russia great again.

They go to bed early. Can't stay up late enough for American fireworks, and they only watch fox. I'm sure many of them have dementia, my dad did, and don't know or care where they are.

Oh FFF, Fox News always shows brief clips of the fireworks in major cities of countries every single year.  My preference is Sydney, Australia with the opera house in the background.

Since we're talking DU-folk in this, it is possible that some of them don't realize that Moscow is a world capital and multiple time zones to the east of the US. They may also not realize it - I suspected it, but had to check - but there are no other major world capitals in the same time zone as Moscow that would be likely to celebrate the Western calendar New Year with fireworks (Fireworks? In Baghdad?).

Exactly. IIRC, another (or the other) world capital in that time zone is Mogadishu.

It take the mentality of a DU-member to overlook what Fox (and probably other networks) was obviously doing and dive headfirst into the Russian hacking conspiracy theory.

I'm a bit slow, sometimes, but I wonder ... the Framers defined treason very stringently, and set a high standard of proof. Could it be that they anticipated - or had experienced - loonies like Buggee tossing the T-Word around if their breakfast eggs are too runny or their Cheerios are soggy?
