For the last 4 years I was searching for a job at age 57. To say it was awful was close. The people here were wonderful. This past October I began a job, part time, but a job with benefits, that has been a lifesaver. I am intellectually stimulated, get paid a decent wage and am appreciated.

Thanks for all the support I got from many of you during the process. Remember there is always hope, even for an old dog.

I can't find out what the new job is, probably something to do with the University of Oklahoma again because red (an Illinois transplant) has the time on her hands to make threads in addition to yours, like this one:

Personally I don't want to. I live with a ton of anti-intellectuals who are just plain creepy. I understand we shouldn't talk down to people, but I am not crazy about being bullied by people who are intellectual midgets.

I understand the idea but I will not act stupid to win an election. I truly believe there are enough smart people to elect a President in this country, we have just gone silent.

You can't get much DUmber and still live. Elitism is the unfounded belief that you know what's best for other people, even better than they know for themselves.

Elitism can be found across the political parties, but is concentrated in the Democrat Party.

How'd she stay the same age for 4 years?

More seriously, my last two job searches were at ages 54 and 61. The combined search time was under 6 months. Sounds like rsbg's career field has some combination of low demand and high supply and/or rsbg was less than diligent early in her search (being out of a job for over 6-12 months tends to be a yellow flag for prospective employers, except in a significant recession) and/or rsbg has a checkered employment history.

FWIW, a lot of these temp agency places that put people in administrative jobs for a while have "benefit packages," which is usually just some form of group health plan that they can buy into, and maybe some sort of HSA plan.  Most of these are "temp-to-hire" jobs and then the company offers their own package once the person is hired away from the temp agency.
