Reports are coming in that a Russian Military plane has gone missing shortly after taking off from Sochi.

From RT:

“Russian air traffic controllers have lost contact with a Tu-154 airliner with 91 people on board, which disappeared from radar shortly after take-off in Sochi, the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed in a statement.

Ninety-one people were on board the aircraft, including 83 passengers and eight crew members, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

The plane took off from Sochi Adler Airport on a “planned flight” and failed to check in with the control tower at 5:40am Moscow time, the ministry said, adding that all rescue services in the region have been deployed to search for the missing plane.

“According to preliminary data, a Russian Defense Ministry Tu-154 disappeared from radar screens after departing from Sochi,” a source in the country’s Emergencies Ministry told RIA Novosti earlier.

Nine journalists along with musicians from the army choir of the Russian Armed Forces, the Alexandrov Ensemble, were aboard the plane, the ministry confirmed. The musicians were due to take part in a New Year’s concert at the Russian airbase in Latakia, Syria.

“Alexandrov Ensemble singers made up the majority of the missing passengers of the Tu-154,” a defense source told RIA, adding that 90 members of the choir were supposed to be flown to Syria on two Russian military planes.

“According to preliminary data, the missing Tu-154 arrived in Sochi from Chkalovsky airfield near Moscow for refueling. It is likely that it crashed in the mountainous area of the Krasnodar region,” another source told RIA.

Meanwhile, another source familiar with the matter told Interfax that the plane went off radar when the Tu-154 was maneuvering in Russian airspace over the Black Sea, shortly after take off.

“The plane disappeared from radar approximately 20 minutes after takeoff,” another source told RIA, adding that the plane departed at 5:20am local time and failed to check in with the tower at 5:40am.

The Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviation) told RIA Novosti that the flight was “not civilian”.

Russian military plane crashes in Black Sea, killing 92

A Russian military plane with 92 people on board has crashed into the Black Sea, Russia's defence ministry says.

The plane disappeared from radar two minutes after taking off from Sochi at 05:25 (02:25 GMT), heading for Latakia in Syria.

Debris and several bodies have been found, with no reports of survivors.

The Tu-154 was carrying soldiers, reporters and 64 members of the famed Alexandrov military music ensemble who were to perform for Russian troops.

President Vladimir Putin has said Monday will be a day of national mourning.

The flight had originated in Moscow and landed at Adler airport in Sochi for refuelling.

The defence ministry said in a statement: "Fragments of the Tu-154 plane of the Russian defence ministry were found 1.5km (one mile) from the Black Sea coast of the city of Sochi at a depth of 50 to 70m (165-230ft)."

Ministry spokesman Maj-Gen Igor Konashenkov said: "No survivors have been spotted."

MOSCOW — A Russian plane headed to an air base in Syria with 92 people aboard, including members of a well-known military choir, crashed into the Black Sea on Sunday minutes after taking off from the resort city of Sochi, Russia’s Defense Ministry said.

There was no indication anyone survived the crash of the Tu-154, which belonged to the Defense Ministry and was taking the Alexandrov Ensemble to a holiday concert at the Hemeimeem air base in Syria’s coastal province of Latakia. Crews found at least one body and ships, helicopters and drones were searching the area for more.

A total of 84 passengers and eight crew members were on the plane when it disappeared from radars two minutes after taking off in good weather. Emergency crews found fragments about 1.5 kilometers (less than one mile) from shore. There was no immediate word on the cause.

Irrespective of politics, this is a great tragedy for military music.

I had the distinct good fortune of performing with and alongside Soviet-era bandsmen. They are formidable musicians and work hard at their craft.

This particular vocal ensemble was the cream of the Russian crop.

I remember the opening ceremony for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, where the Russiannational anthem was sung by said choir.  It's to the tune of the old USSR national anthem, so the tune was easily recognizable.  I remember listening to their rendition (it was in Russian, of course) and thinking, "WOW!  They crushed it!"  It was unreal, it was that good.

May God console the families.  They might be teaching the various choirs of angels . . .

CAIR Director Deletes Tweet Wishing 100 More Russians Died in Plane Crash

The terror-tied Council on American-Islamic Relations wants everyone to believe it's a human rights organization even though one of its directors was upset that only 82 people died aboard a Russian military plane that crashed on Christmas Day.

Hussam Ayloush, the Executive Director of the Los Angeles Chapter of CAIR, sent out the revolting tweet after news broke about the crash in an apparent attempt at criticizing Russia's role in Syria:

Later, when he learned the plane wasn’t carrying military personnel but the Russian army’s official choir members on their way to sing at the air force base in Syria for New Year’s celebrations, he deleted the tweet and tried to back peddle:

Deleted an earlier tweet I posted abt a Russian military jet that crashed on way to Syria before knowing it included non-combatants
