And we're a centralized meeting place for reporting voting irregularities during elections. This was the first time we've been hacked during a vote and the first time we've been out of commission for a week. Skinner said whoever did this knew what they were doing. I don't buy the casual troll theory.

While this is true, it's certainly not for the reasons you believe to be true.

DU is more likely backed by the Russians as it is hacked by the Russians.  I'm sure their intelligence analysts find it just as hilarious as we do, and would loathe to lose their daily laughers.

Even with the darkest view of the Russians you could take, it makes more Discordian sense for them to do everything possible to keep it going than to shut it down.

Well, of course the answer is, "Yes." The Russians COULD have hacked DU, possibly even with an Atari 400. But "could" and "did" have two very different meanings.
