Easier to just refer you to Nadin (Google) than to write it up, but basically a bunch of drugs (And therefore both real and wannabe gangstas), very loud music, jumping around, and various forms of non-adult stupidity.  I wouldn't be surprised if some of the stupidity involved fire and it got loose.

Thanks.  Sounds just like the caliber of people George Soros would hire to start riots and light buildings on fire.

The building houses some 50 people and is an artists collective called “Ghost Ship.” One, a photographer and artist, said a friend hurt himself and asked for help getting out. Bob Mule said he tried, but was thwarted by the intense fire.

“It was too hot, too much smoke, I had to get out of there,” said Mule, a photographer and artist who lives at the building and who suffered minor burns. “I literally felt my skin peeling and my lungs being suffocated by smoke. I couldn’t get the fire extinguisher to work.”

When he escaped, he could see someone calling for help from the second-floor window, and tried to get a ladder, ” but they jumped out the window.”

From the article Cpg linked:

Quote
During an afternoon press conference, city officials said that the building owner had been cited by the city just last month and an investigation was underway into if the interior of the structure was illegal.

Officials said that the last use of the property was legalized to be just a warehouse and not a residential building, as the city was investigating reports that people were living inside the warehouse.

The article has some interesting pix of the interior (undated) and of many missing people. The pix of the interior look like the inside of an antique store - lots of wood furniture that would impede egress for those inside and ingress for would-be rescuers, and which would be fuel for the fire. Looking at Google Maps, it looks like it was about 5 blocks from the Fruitvale BART station (Bay Area Rapid Transit) and a similar distance from I-880 (the Nimitz Freeway). Close by on the other side of the Nimitz is the island of Alameda. It looks like the immediate neighborhood around the BART station has some 1970s or 1980s construction (or rehab) retail business buildings, but this warehouse was 2 or 3 blocks from that area.

Driving to and from several races has taken me through that area on the Nimitz several times in the last couple of years. Much of it is former industrial buildings, abandoned in the 60s or 70s (if not the 50s). So these buildings would be older construction, of questionable or marginal compliance to current codes for industrial use, and possibly having decades of wiring that was done by users without permits and isn't code compliant.

Even if that :stoner: :stoner: "artists' collective" :stoner: :stoner: had maintained the building perfectly for their business, it was not suitable for habitation, and especially not for use as an entertainment venue.

Its so dammed senseless
they had thousands of dollars of Persian rugs and antique  furniture
that moorish bed thing must be worth  several grand at least

Nobody thought of selling this stuff at auction  or whatever and using the money to
get a better building  or at lest put in sprinklers and fire escapes ?

EXCLUSIVE: Filth, chaos, weird religious symbols, feral animals and orgies  - inside Oakland warehouse of horrors before deadly blaze as tenant tells of previous fires
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4006300/Filth-chaos-weird-religious-symbols-Pictures-appalling-conditions-inside-Oakland-warehouse-36-died.html

Shocking video and images have emerged from inside the doomed Oakland warehouse depicting a squalid 'hell-hole' not fit to live in - as a tenant told how cats urinated everywhere and it was the venue for an orgy.

The footage and photos, obtained exclusively by DailyMail.com, shows the living quarters of some of the residents of the building known as the Oakland Ghost Ship.

While photos on the art collective's website show an eclectic and creative space for artists and musicians, the reality of life behind the scenes in this dilapidated building is horrific.

A filthy Hell hole!
