LarryL19708:22 PM ESTWhen the top 20 nations are ranked by standard of living, the U.S. now comes in 14th. The nation that have surpassed us are all modern, stable, democratic socialist systems - not managed by totalitarian, communist political parties. Those nations include Scandinavian countries, most of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. How do you explain that fact? How do you explain the fact that not one single nation with a lightly-regulated form of capitalism produces a high standard of living for it's people? Not one... Why hasn't that "superior" form of economic system and the associated government produced just one shining example of the free market, trickle-down, supply-side economics we continually hear conservatives promote? For the U.S. an unregulated financial industry and a lightly restricted free market (capitalism) only tends to produce times like the Great Depression and our recent 30-year-high recession. When has trickle-down economics actually worked in the U.S.?
These rankings are stupid because they do not take in to account the vastness of the USA by land mass nor accounts for the price that our umbrella of security gives to them.
