What hacker would want to deprive the sane world of (D)Ummie outrage by hacking DU on election night?
I think someone in camp Stumpy knew what was coming based on internal polling and skins found out through the grapevine, and concocted something quick and pulled the plug after a few minutes. He wouldn't want certain sentiments expressed by DUers being associated with his cash cow after all, especially if he knew that a drastic reduction in family income was coming very soon. And then, after the worst of the online pooo flinging rioting and death threats were done being issued elsewhere and the anger subsided to his satisfaction, he fired it back up in donor form - never let a good crisis go to waste, right?

Obviously, my thoughts on this are pure speculation, but I'm near convinced this was an inside job, planted by someone who is long gone from DU... someone he trusted in the past. My first inclination would be thinking it was someone who bailed for the jackass site. I don't know the dynamics of the breakup or who was around in the past with that sort of access. I've read the DUmp for years, but never paid close attention to the inner workings and the players involved there, I just liked to laugh at the idiots... rarely even paying attention to poser names.
And I'm saying this because it happened, then skimmer restored the site a couple of times only to have the code instantly execute AGAIN. And I mean instantly. I seriously doubt someone was sitting around hammering the site waiting for it to come back so he/she could do the same thing over and over. Na, it was either skimmer himself, or more likely, someone from the past who just wanted to darken his doorway one last time.
This even happens from time to time in professional IT environments and they are really hard to locate or detect.
