Here is one of the reasons Hillary called Byrd one of her mentors...
" *Joined the KKK at age 24 -- liked that it was anti-Communist. It's a membership for which Byrd has repeatedly apologized. "

Others can be found at the same FOX remembrance of Byrd:

A Look Back at Covering Sen. Robert Byrd: Facts and Remembrances

" Sen. Robert C. Byrd, D-WV died early Monday morning after a legendary career in Washington, here are some facts and remembrances from covering the 92-year old senator for years on Capitol Hill.

ACHIEVEMENTS:

*Nov. 8, 2009 -- Byrd became the longest serving member in Congress in history.

*June 12, 2006 -- Byrd became the longest serving senator in history.

*Nov. 2006 -- Byrd was elected to his 9TH FULL TERM. (So - Byrd was closing in on his 58th year in the Congress).

I bring this up because Don the Con is now using what Hillary said about Byrd as evidence of her being a "bigot." He could not be any less honest if he was a con man real estate developer.... Oh wait...

1. I know Byrd gets a lot of DU love,

but to me, joining the KKK, even as a 24-year old youth, and rising to the rank of Exalted Cyclops, is unforgivable. I wish Hillary had not named him as a mentor.

I guess the DUmp won`t defend him after all.

3. Did you grow up when and where he did? Judging others can be risky business.

The fact is she did call him a mentor so the reason(s) why IS the only important thing. One can have respect for someone who sees the error of their ways and sincerely apologizes. Don the Con IS NOT capable of same thus no respect for that sleazeball.

I was wrong.

6. So do you think that Hillary calling him a mentor is evidence of her being a bigot?

Pretty much,yes.

5. I don't mind

being able to forgive someone who actually atoned for their past. It's better than the alternative.

As long as they are marxist and promise you free shit.

2. Anyone with half a brain know what Hillary meant, it was because Byrd changed his racist views, and

seemed to move in a more progressive direction:

18. He never changed.

He used the N word twice in the media in the 2000s. He boasted that he was the only Senator to have voted against both African American appointees to the Supreme Court, Thurgood Marshall and Clarence Thomas. It is disgusting to see him defended on DU.

20. In that regard you are right, but here is his voting record

http://www.ontheissues.org/Senate/Robert_Byrd.htm

regardless of that, his record still stand that he voted against the civil rights act, and the voting rights act, so your assessment is correct, he is a racist. Did he change his views on race? probably not

Also, couldn't you find a better source than fox news?

He also endorsed President Obama

In other words..."So what,I don`t care because he was a dumbocrat and you suck because you used Fox".

former9thward hit it well (It's rare when a DUmmy beats me to a point I was about to make).
Robert "Senator Sheets" Byrd may have distanced himself from the KKK because they were making him look bad, but he still clung to the racist views he had when he was an Exalted Cyclops.
Aww, so Byrd joined the Klan because they were "Anti- Communist," that means he must not have been a racist? I guess Byrd back then must not have picked up a newspaper and realized all the acts of terrorism and murder that the Klan committed up to that point.

Last week my Prog-Troll FB Friend plopped the story about Trump's business having been sued by the Feds for racial discrimination in renting housing (the story was true, sort of; the suit was filed in 1973 and Trump's business settled; what the Prog-Troll's story omitted was that the Feds' evidence was gathered in 1972 and earlier, before Donald Trump took over his father's business). When some one pointed out to him the absurdity of a 43-year-old lawsuit being the evidence of present racism, my Prog-Troll FB Friend responded with, "Once a racist, always a racist." I responded with Wikipedia quotes indicating that both Byrd and Hugo Black had "apologized" for their KKK involvement, and then asked him whether their apologies were believable.

BTW, Byrd was not just an ordinary Klansman. Byrd started his local KKK chapter, was its Kleagle (recruiter, possibly a paid position), and became the chapter's Exalted Cyclops (head of the chapter). IOW, Byrd didn't join the KKK for business/career reasons! Byrd fully BELIEVED and advocated the Klan's racist sewage!

I do believe people can realize when they've been wrong and change. Hypothetically, I could believe it of Byrd, but DU-member "former9thward" cited evidence to the contrary. Byrd may have morphed away from cross burnings to, "Negros are OK, as long as they aren't around me," but that's still racism. Similarly, I could believe Hugo Black did change, I just don't know and it doesn't much matter to me one way or the other.

Sheets Byrd was a democrat, so he gets a pass on Klan membership leadership.  Trump has been in the public eye for decades without ever being called a racist and now, all of a sudden, the primitives all believe that he is the worst racist ever in all history.

Quote
“It’s the oldest play in the Democratic playbook. When Democratic policies fail, they are left with only this one tired argument: ‘You’re racist, you’re racist, you’re racist.’ They keep saying it. ‘You’re racist.’ It’s a tired, disgusting argument,” Trump said.

“And it’s so totally predictable. They’re failing so badly. It’s the last refugee of the discredited Democrat politician. They keep going back to the same well, but you know what? The people are becoming very smart. They have heard it too many times before. The well is dry. The well is dry.”
