With questions and anger bubbling up nationwide, the U.S. Justice Department's Civil Rights division took over the investigation Wednesday of a fatal shooting — captured on at least two graphic videos — of a black man by two Baton Rouge, La., police officers. The move came only hours after leaders of the city's black community joined family members of the victim, Alton Sterling, 37, at a news conference to call for more protests and for the inquiry to be turned over to state and federal authorities.Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards, who announced the federal involvement at a news conference, said he had "serious concerns" about the shooting based information from police and the video of the shooting that took place outside of a convenience store. "The video is disturbing, to say the least," Edwards said.
Alton Sterling Had Previous Confrontations With the Baton Rouge Police, Including Involving a Gun
Yes, the nation is once again horrified to learn another black man tragically lost his life after an altercation with police. Alton Sterling was shot and killed Tuesday just after midnight in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Listen to the liberal narrative and you’ll hear that Sterling was killed for selling CDs outside of a Triple S Food Mart. There’s a bit more to the story, of course.Police were called after Sterling had been threatening a homeless man with a firearm for asking him if he had any spare change. The homeless man had made the 911 call. After police arrived, Sterling had resisted arrest, and appeared to make a grab for his firearm at one point. This is still disputable, however. In the video footage of the shooting, you can hear the officer shout “He’s got a gun!†and “if you f—king move, I swear to God.†One of the officers then says something unintelligible, and two shots are fired. So who is Alton Sterling? For starters, liberals should know he possessed an illegal firearm. As a felon with a lengthy rap sheet, Sterling is legally prohibited from possessing a firearm. Police records show Sterling had been a member of the Bloods gang, and had a list of offenses including battery, assault, drugs and weapons charges, and owed $25,000 in child support. He was also a registered pedophile, having impregnated a 14-year-old girl when he was 20. The media, by contrast, has portrayed him as a loving father of five.

Minnesota highways once again became protest grounds Wednesday, as dozens of people took to the southbound lanes of Interstate 35W near downtown Minneapolis at the peak of the morning commute, the latest public disruption in the wake of last week’s police killing of Philando Castile in Falcon Heights.Police arrested 41 protesters who were charged with misdemeanors, including public nuisance and unlawful assembly. The coalition, in a statement, said it condemned the killing of Castile and “believes this shutdown reinforces our belief that comfort and business as usual must be disrupted until substantive changes occur in our city and throughout the country.†The group also said it was demanding dismantling of police departments. “We believe that security for all of us does not lie in use of aggression and force.â€
