PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) --
As expected, commuters were facing challenges Tuesday morning after SEPTA decided to take one-third of its Regional Rail trains out of service due to a structural problem.

"We are missing some 100 cars in our fleet, so there's going to be overcrowding," SEPTA General Manager Jeff Knueppel told Action News Tuesday morning. "I really am concerned, especially as stations get closer to Center City, that the trains will be too crowded to board."

It all began on Friday after a train car was found to be leaning. An inspection led to the discovery of a fracture in an equalizer beam on a Silverliner V car.

"Inspections performed so far have noted mostly small cracks in at least one of the eight possible locations," said Knueppel.
